Block identification

Does anybody know how to find what block is in a 2003 Mustang Gt?? I have heard that there were two different blocks used---Windsor and Romeo...How can you find out for sure (vin or block itself) and what is the difference between the two blocks???

Yeah...I thought I heard something like that before. Do you have to take off the valve covers to find out or is it the same number of bolts that connects the cover to the head??

Any info why Ford used two different blocks and which is better??? Any differece at all???

same number of bolts on the valve cover as well. just pop the hood and count em

11bolt = romeo
13bolt = windsor

only differences i know of is that the romeo's have bolt on cam gears which makes the cam swap a little more pleasant and save you about $80.00 for a bolt on cam gear kit (if you're doing the swap)

and the romeo heads use cam girdles instead of cam caps on the camshafts

other than the cam swap being a bit eaiser with the romeo motor, the performance numbers are identical

thats all i know, just from experience. hope it helps
