bigger cams!....

Since Im going to be redoing my motor, I think I want to go with larger cams. Ill go ahead and have the pistons notched so what "bigger" cams would work out with about 20 psi, mmr 900, ported heads, eddie intake?

i was going to before i knew what my issue was. I cant sell the car "broke". I dont wanna take that big of a loss on it. But if im going to do it again, I want to do it nice.

Anyway, I know blowers dont usually run too big of cams but I feel like im over these street 292's and could use a lil more.

Glad to see you doing it up right. I hope you fall back in love with that car. Crying shame to take a loss on such a nice machine. With what that car is and now will be it would have already earned its lifetime membership into my garage.

I run 20psi with my non degreed HP S292 cams. I thought about going to the HP R292 cams but the smaller lift S cams perform so well. I hit 20 psi by 6300 rpm but it flattens out clear to 7K. That's because of the crappy Patriot valve springs start bleeding boost around 20 psi. Especially with a turbo or PD blower where it hits max boost sooner. I should have been close to 24 psi by 6800 rpm. It made power to 6800 and slowly lost 15-20 hp by 7k. Once I up grade the springs and degree the cams I would like to be the first 4.6l 2V to break 700 with a T-trim as far as I know. I usually see 25-30+ HP increase just going to another Dynojet because the one where I tune at is an antique lol. Almost all the traction surface is wore off.

Baker, something that you rarely hear people discuss when talking about cams is, dynamic compression ratio. Basically this is taking cam timing into account when calculating compression ratio. Why, well because cams determine when the intake valve closes. Why is this important? Well "big cams" like comp 278s, leave the intake valve open much later than normal. So what does that mean? Well it means that the piston is traveling up the bore before the intake valve closes. Well so what? Ok that means that at low rpms some of the air/fuel in the cylinder get pushed back into the intake by the piston. At higher rpms this does not happen because of "ram tuning" effect and very short cycle times.

http://www.wallaceracing.com/dynamic-cr.php

So to summarize, big cams "bleed" intake cylinder charge back into the intake at low rpms but not at higher rpms.

P.S the most important thing that you left out is what octane?

Thats another thing john.... Since I hardly drive the car and it will be damn near bulletproof after this, I figured I would run on e85. We have it at a couple locations in town. So why not? Its not drove that much so its not "so expensive". Ill have to up my injectors from 60's to 80's. But If Im going to go MMR 900, I might as well put my mods to work!

Damn man, you trying to copy my car? J/K

I am going E85 right now. Putting in a big return fuel system with dinky little 80# injectors. BTW you want bigger than 80# for e85.

I would go with some medium size cams for E85 and 20-25 psi. Honestly the cams you already have would be good or step up to comp 270s. Do not go 278s unless you are off your rocker, like me.

Yea if I would need to stay medium or so, then I really like the ones im running. I dont mind overspinning my blower since its rare that I do anything with it.. Im at 18-20 psi right now. What size injectors then? We need to get together more man.... need to make these stangs known!

Shaun.... work something out with me. 8 forged MMR H beams, 8 manley 18cc pistons, and the 60's. Even though the rod had a spun bearing, i WILL be getting it and the rest of them checked to make sure everything is up to spec before I sell em. text me bout it if you got some change.... Ill pull the bastard this weekend.

Baker, I wanted to go with Bosch 105s but got a good deal on 80's. I am planning on running higher than normal base fuel pressure with my new return system to compensate for the small 80# injectors. My plan is to utilize some spray to make a little extra power on top of 20-25 psi from the KB 2.8H. When I get it going again you need to take a ride, I mean flight, in it... You rode in it on super low timing break in tune with a measly 15 psi. It's not quite the same now.

have you looked into Norm's garage? mhs? bigger is not always better(CAMS!!)

even cms stage 3's work well. i know they are smaller than what you have. but the motor i bought them from made 771rwhp with a d1 with 20 something psi. It was in ff&mm and jpc tuned it.

Point is, don't get stuck on the bigger is better thing
