newbie..4.10 gears.. do i need anything else..

im knew to this whole forum thing, not sure where to post this. i looked for this question on here..didnt quite find it.

i drive a 2000 mustang gt 5spd 110k
basically stock, only has flowmaster mufflers, accel ignition coils, alpine radio, and just little shit like that.

my gf got me ford racing 4.10 gears, along with a motive gear bearing kit.

so question is.. i got the gears.. and a bearing kit..
do i need to upgrade or get anything else?
or will my car be fine, and have no issues with the gears along with the bearing kit installed?

ps i plan on upgrading my clutch when i do the gears cuz i need a new one anyhow.

thanks in advance

You will definitely need some gear oil and limited slip fluid if it doesn't include it already. Make sure you have all the tools including a dial indicator to measure backlash, that is the key!

I would consider buying this as well: 8.8 Mustang Rear End Differential Cover (79-12) at AmericanMuscle - Free Shipping!

How many miles on the car? Rebuilding the trak-lok would be a good idea as a "while you're in there". Clutch packs are ~$70 for stock, ~$110 for carbon fiber (same as in '03/'04 Cobra).

Your speedometer will be off. Get a speed-cal or a handheld tuner if you don't already to fix it.

Yea a tuner is a great investment if you dont already have one. You really dont need a new diff cover. The clutch packs are something that I would rebuild it your packs are slipping, with 110,000 miles I would. I am opening mine up in a couple months just to replace the fluid and check everything out. I am hard on them with the auto and it sees lots of water in florida. btw you need a tube to get the fluid in there. I have used a pump and it was perfect. Squeezing it in there takes hours with the bottle an a tube. If you want to go cheap when I didnt have the pump I used a gallon bag, filled it up, sealed it then twisted a bottom corner up real tight, cut the tip, shoved it in the fill hole and squeezed the bag. Took no time to fill it up!

How much are you looking to spend? The list of things to get can get extensive if the budget is big... If you don't want to throw the wallet at it then don't buy things like the diff cover. That cover helps keep your rear end alive by taking the side load off of the carrier bolts.

Motive Bearing kits come with a diff gasket. OP, did you get the full bearing kit, or just the install kit (shims, bolts, pinion nut, seal, crush sleeve only.) With that many miles you're going to want to replace all your bearings.

This. Royal Purple doesn't need friction modifier, however it is the most expensive. And if you've never done a rear end before, you might just want to have someone do it for you unless you really want to learn. There is a lot more to it that some people let on. Not that it's too hard, but it is a process and a lot of things have to be done just right.

Could I ask why he would ever need that?

Good idea here. Although for $190 you can just get a whole new T-Lok diff.

Fluid Transfer pump from Harbor Freight. Cost me $8 bucks, and it took about 15 minutes to pump that thick ass shit into the diff.

A lot of brands dont need the additive anymore. I just changed my gear oil on the weekend. I have 3.73's too. On the bottle it even says it has the limited slip additive already in it. Mind you i spilled a bit so i had to add a tiny little bit of some normal mopar 75w-90 kicking around to the mix. Again if you didnt live so far id give you a bottle of the additive i have laying around. I have no use for it anymore with all this stuff already being premade.

I've heard a lot of bad things about the speed-cals. Tuner is definitely a better option.

hey, call this guy... Dirty Dirty Racing - Ford GM Dodge Tuning

i just sold him my diablosports tuner, which is what you need to recalc the speedo... he can unlock the tuner... if you buy a new tuner they're like 300-400 bucks and once you use them they are married to your computer, pretty sure he sells the used tuner for 1/3 of that

oh and I agree with Cathedral
