Clutch is finally installed but maybe some issues?

I just finished my clutch install, go to test drive and I notice when I start to release clutch I can actually hear it spin on the flywheel. Is this normal for brand new clutch will it go away. It also seems to make a strange noise when car is in fifth.

Did you change your throwout bearing and pilot bearing?

Yes sir I did. What's happening is when I start releasing the clucth and it actually starts to grab I can hear it hit the flywheel. It's not loud or obnoxious. I don't have the rubber boot on yet or the shifter boot either so maybe they drown this noise out. It's not terribly loud I just hear the clutch engage I guess

I'm pretty sure the clutch isn't releasing 100 percent with I push pedal down. Now on occasion I grind 4th and 5th. Pedal releases right off the floor. Could it be Mercon 5 or is it clutch adjustment?

My ram HDX clutch made a swoosh sound the first 2k miles as it broke in. Its just the clutch disk matting itself.

Most new tranni oil is synthetic which isnt great for a gearbox. I've tried several and had the best results by far with regular dexron/mericon non synthetic. It whinned a little with all others.

Mercon 5 is what ford told me to use and it whines in second pretty bad. It shifts smooth in every gear except 4 and 5 on occasion. This ram hdx cluTch grabs awesome though.

Does it kind of sound like sand paper on something when you first let off of the clutch? Or is it sounding like that the whole time.

Thats mercon for you. Its because its synthetic now and it wasnt in the past. If you want it to stop whining run dex/mercon. Its one of the only mercon compatible non synthetics left on the market. Synthetic oil works great on bearings. Not so great in a gearbox. The oil WILL last longer which is what synthetic does. But it WILL wear out the tranny faster because synthetic doesnt cling to things as well as a standard dino oil..... It wont wear out overnight but it will get louder. I say switch it. The other issue is most trannys dont shift as well with synthetic because the oil isnt tacky enough for the synchros to function as well as with a dino oil or an oil with a friction modifier such as synchromesh

I seem to still have this issue. It sounds like sandpaper when I engage clutch and also seems to make identical noise when in 5th. But I don't smell burnt clutch. Could it be the trans itself. Haven't changed fluid yet. The noise is only audible when shifte boots are off

Just finished with the trans flush and replacing with dx merc. Most noise is gone but I grind down shifting from 5th to 4th. This car has never done this before. It only grinds if I'm revving at above 2k rpm in 5th and shift to 4th. Anything below it shifts smooth. I have no problems with any other gears and can rev to 6k in 3rd and up shift 4th with no issues wtf is going on Should I just double clutch to 4th on a down shift.

If the pedal's releasing right off the floor then something's out of adjustment. Do you have an adjustable cable and/or firewall adjuster? If you're all stock, take a look up inside the inspection hole on the trans to see if the clutch fork is fully seated on the pivot stud. Another thought I had is maybe the throwout bearing isn't installed correctly on the clutch fork. I did a web search and came up with a couple pics of what it should look like.

In my 96 I ran the ram hd and it made that sand paper sound when you let off of the clutch it is normal.

As for it making it in 5th gear is it a constant noise or is it just when you let off of the clutch into 5th

After running the dex merc for about 60 miles the fourth grind is gone completely. I can't hear any more noises because I put the boot back on the car now. Hopefully all is well.
