Obd2?
I'm trying to replace two of my cats and both flowmaster 40 series. Do I have to buy a obdII after market catalytic converter? I know I need 02 port. How would my car run without obdII?

obdII is an onboard diagnostics system...so you can't remove it
now toward your cat issue... replacing your cats will be just that...your cats will be replaced...exactly why are you replacing them? Are you throwing a code? |

I took my car to three different shops. both my flowmasters when idleing make a bad rattle. at the shop they bump the mufflers to show me they were no good. one cat was reading 600 degrees..the other rattle when they bump it. I was told i need to replace both flowmasters and both cats. I just bought this car and trying to buy the parts to do it cheaper. all the shops want over 600 if they buy parts. I was told by one shop i need obdII with 02 plug cats. Well their expensive lol. so i'm trying to put cats by magnaflow that just have the 02 plug. wondering if that would work and not harm my car. I'm tryng like hell to make my wife stop tripping out. But i want it to be done right but kinda cheaper then the prices i was quoted. the other the im not tryin to wing is the flowmasters 40

Your o2 bungs are not even on your cats. They are in the pipe before and after your cats. Sounds like none of them shops either know what they are doing or they just trying to scam you. The one that's rattling is broke up inside and the one thats 600* is prolly stopped up. Yes they need replacing. It would be way cheaper to find someone on here to sell you there factory h pipe with the cats and all on it. I would sell you mine for $100 plus shipping if you wanna go that route. It was taking off my car at 20,00 miles or so. No rust or dents or scrapes or nothing. Pm me if you want it. That would save you a grip because catalytic converters are high.

these are the cats im running i use to get a code when i didnt have cats but i had these welded on and there is no code now. but months later when i got my car dyno tuned after the blower instal he turned off my rear 02 sensors for whatever reason. but i wasnt getting a code anymore with these cats and the 02s were on at the time.

Your car has 2 cats. The ones closet to engine are only resonators. They look like cats but they are not.

And the o2 ports are not on the cats themselves, the back ones are about a foot behind the back cats. Unless yours are not factory and someone has nodded it with a setup I'm not familiar with.

that just sounds expensive to me but i guess the locations vary total I paid cats $189parts $80 instal mufflers $118 for the pair $80 for the instal so that was $467 total. But a few more shops around here charge the prices you listed. just ask them how much they would charge just for labor if you brought in your own parts cats and mufflers. and it will be quite loud with cats and no mufflers but not nearly as loud as no cats and no mufflers.

one thing i've noticed OP is that you're still under the impression that you have o2's connected to the cats...your o2's are in bungs before and after your cats...not on the cats....i hope the shops that told you they are were not the shops you were thinking about getting work done yet

I think op you need to put a jack under it and take a peak at em yourself, just so you'll have an understanding of what we are trying to get across from you man. I hate to see people get raped at shops .
