Steel backed straight timing guide issue

Just trying to find an opinion/option on what i can do. I upgraded to steel backed straight timing guides, i was told the only change i would have to make to use them was to get a shorter bolt because the guide no longer bolted into the oil pump, it bolts to the block. The issue im having is i dont have threads where its suppose to bolt to. Im using an 03/04 cobra block but my 00 GT block does not have it either. Should i drill and tap it or just use the plastic guide? Im only having the issue on the driver side, the passenger side is fine. Id prefer to use the steel mainly because its stonger, whats every ones thoughts?

Personally, I would be apprehensive about drilling into my engine block. I would just use the regular plastic one. I don't know what's behind that casting. Could be a water jacket, could be an oil galley, could be nothing. I wouldn't risk it. Also, how would you know that you are drilling in exactly the right spot?
