Should I keep the Stang or sell it for something else??
I have been thinking about selling my Mustang for a little while now. It doesn't have anything major done to it really. Just a few bolt ons and some suspension work, and exhaust. A few minor cosmetic upgrades as well. The problem I'm having is should I keep it(it's a 2000 GT) or sell it for something newer 03/04 years. Also thinking of Machs as well maybe a Cobra if I can find one cheap enough. If I keep the GT I plan on doing the top end of the motor, cams, intake, heads and everything else involved with that. I already have new cams comp stage 1 sitting in a box right now. Then leaving the car that way and no other motor mods planned. Or should I go with a newer GT with lower miles do the same or just get a Mach and leave it alone. My car has 68 thousand on it now.

If you've only got 68k on a 2000 you need to keep it, no question about it. That thing is barely broken in.

Those are typical maintenance issues that apply to any and all cars. When they go out, then replace them. The age of the car ('00 vs. '03-'04) will gain you nothing.
I agree w/Nick, if it only has 68K and has been dependable, you'll gain nothing by trading up. In fact, you'll just be spending more money and opening yourself up to the option of getting a different car that you know nothing about (and may be worse).

I've got an 03 that just turned 77k, I bought it with 67k a little over a year ago. You have a LOW mile car, keep it.

Was just thinking of starting with a stock car that has never been touched. Found an 04 white mach with 50k on it. The guy wants 15 but it has been for sale for 6 months.

That's COBRA prices man. Fuck that. Keep your car. Why would you want to start over?

I really didn't do most of the mods and im gonna be redoing a few things on this car. As for the cobra they are out unless I can find an auto swapped one already. Can't drive manual anymore with the nerve damage in my left foot and leg.

68k for a 11 nearly 12 year old car is very low miles. You could find a low mileage cobra or mach but get ready to pay out the ass for it.

Just me - and I love my GT (nicest/newest/lowest miles car I've ever had) - I would even trade for a Mach 1, let alone a Cobra (99+ 5 speeds only). Only clincher, both cars had better be stock, no rebuilt/salvage titles, as good or better condition, and lower miles than my GT.
I doubt I'll find that sort of a trade. If I do, I'll upgrade, otherwise, I'm keeping my GT for a very, very long time. Last edited by jeep45238; November 11th, 2011 at 04:26 PM. |

I trade in for the new 5.0 GT. Might also consider a 05-10. My son just bought a 06 with a gt 350 kit and it's a much better foundation than the 00-04. Also if it were for a 99-04 Cobra or Mach with 5 speed I would also consider it.

I would keep your current car! I have bought and sold a lot of cars and they always have some issue or another. It doesn't matter that you did not do the mods on your car because they all seem to be simple bolt ons. If you like your car I would keep it. If you really like the hood of the 2001-04 better just buy a hood. The rest of the car is essentially the same. Put the money into mods that you were going to spend on a newer one...

5,600 miles a year roughly! Hell now I would keep it and mod it how I wanted it. Just my .02

Yea the car was paid for. I do not want a s197 or even a new coyote stang, not interested in that at all. I'm buying a brand new truck in December and I already have 2 other cars as it is, not to mention my GF's car. I was just thinking maybe of getting something with lower miles on it or a Mach which is a little faster. And starting from scratch so I know exactly what has been done to the car. And I might not even ever know that if someone returned it back to stock.

Only 68,000 miles. Mine has 156,000. The only repairs I've had is one COP, both front hubs (at 130,000 miles), brakes and radiator fan. I've changed other parts but improvements don't count. The stock clutch was still good when I changed it at 145,000 miles. With such low mileage why do you think things are going to start going bad?
