V6-V8 swap-one question

Ok, so I have the twin turbo V6 mustang now, and have a buyer for my turbo kit. I also have that 13k mile GT drivetrain laying here that I'm going to swap in once I get the kit taken off. So my question...How do I go about getting the car to start? I mean I have the Gt/5 speed ECU, but only the keys to my V6 ECU. The ECU is what detects the chip in the key, correct? Otherwise that wouldnt even be a problem. And I'm pretty sure I can get around everything else just fine. The only thing I didn't consider was the gauge cluster swap. No big deal anyway.

Thanks for the help, Mike.

the guage cluster just take to a dealer ship and have them flash the ecu to the vin, the key to the ecu. just tell the dealer ship what your doing and they should be able to take care of your problem for around $150 maybe less. this should solve your pats issue.

just a side note youll probably need a bigger fuel pump for the bigger engine. dont know if you thought bout that yet

Kinda unrelated, but if you were doing a swap like this, or of any type, could you have the dealer adjust the digital odometer to match the other engine, or set it to zero if you're putting in a brand new built engine?

I'm not completely familiar with the laws exactly but I think reseting the odometer even with all new parts is illegal.

Yep. It is considered fraud and is a felony in many states.

Looks like I did learn something this semester in college lol

You can have it changed by sending it out to a few companies and have the mileage changed. You'll need a affidavit. Or find right people that have a license to change them from home. That's what I did on an old car. But the title was marked with faulty odo and listed as incorrect mileage/exempt. Plus I had no plans to sell the car.

Or u can buy a cluster with lower mileage on it the reading is built into cluster itself not Ecu , u still need to disclose actual mileage though if u sell it or its fraud don't wanna promote any illegal activitys here

Do the V6 cars have Pats?

Because the Pats module is what detects if you have the correct key. Im not sure if it will a V6 one is the same as a V8 one but if so you wont have issues starting the car.

Other way around it is have a tune done by a professional tuner that has professional software and have them turn PATs completely off.

Thanks guys, those were what I thought I had as options. But if I were to get the GT gauge cluster, i'd still need everything reprogrammed, right? So the keys/ECU/cluster match?

Otherwise I've heard of the possibility of having the speedo and tach from the V6 work with the new engine, or have some kind of tuning for it to work.

On another note...damnit, I wish I'd have had more time on that shortblock offer yesterday for $2500. I might do that before I put it all together and save tearing it apart in another year. It's kind of a shame to do with a 13k mile engine though when I'm only looking to make about 350-400hp.

The odometer on a car does not track the motor and drivetrain. It is designed to record the chasis mileage. Just becasue the motor is rebuilt does not mean that ball joints, axles, steering components and more are any less worn.

I have never done the swap. But if the Pats is turned off in the tune, you wont have to have anything reprogramed as far as I know.
