Finally Got My Winter Rims Together!

Started with this:

Bought these:

Ended up with this:

I sold the Bullitt's for $400 in a rush attempt to scrape together cash for new tires on the FR500's because I didn't want the Bullitt's back on, and ruined my setup having those as a nicer set of winter rims. Now, about $150 richer, I have a full set of winter rims, and it doesn't look half bad!
Started with these $40 98' GT rims:

Bought $100 worth of great used tires, $60 for a mount and balance, and about $50 for various paints only to end up using the $20 I spent in Plasti Dip when all was said and done.
Ended up with this as my official winter stance:

Moral of the story, live on craigslist till you find what you want at the right price, listen to everyone who ever had a success story with plasti dip, and have a friend who mounts and balances tires! I miss my stock bullitt's, and it was a rushed decision, but I like knowing I made money off this transaction and these work just fine till I can get the FR's back on. Whaddaya think?

Not bad for the money..... I couldn't drive it in the winter though. I know what road salt does to a unibody.

Id like to take my NT05s off and throw them in a lake or make a tire swing out of them for underprivileged child. If only i had the money to buy some new ones. Them FR-500s look awesome tho!

Looks awesome man! Really a good deal considering the price. I just picked up a set of General Altimax Arctics to throw on my stock Bullitts for the winter.

(Yes.. I drive mine in the snow lol)

OK, I'm not really familiar with the wheel you show pictures. Let me get this straight you sold 17x8s to get 16x8s off of a 6er to get winter wheels? I'm confused.

I bought six wheels: 4 9x17 and 2 10.5 x 17. I run all season on the 9x17 and DRs on the 10.5 x 17.

LopnVrt: Are you crazy?? Haha the NT05's are like the best thing since sliced bread! I love them!
MT0911: I drove in the snow once and decided after that, i was never doing it again haha. The tires were 245/45/17 Continental's up front and same size Nexen's in back; I forget the exact models, but i know the nexen's are shit haha can't complain for the price though..
Eagle: The wheels I bought are 17x8 1998 GT rims; they fit over a cobra brake upgrade. They only came with 2 center caps, so I'm not running the caps on any of the rims unless I can find a good deal on some. CJPony wants $50 a piece, which is not wallet friendly for winter rims haha. The bullitt's were sold because I wanted to keep my FR's on the car instead of putting the FR's back in storage till I got new tires for them after one popped and the rest were on their way....so they were sold for funds. Then months later, this was my solution.

I hate them lol they wheel hop bad and I did prolly a solid 2 min burnout at the track and not so much as a puff of smoke came from em amd the car spun thru 3rd gear with 2 ppl in it. I'm glad I wasn't the one that purchased the tires or I'd have to slit my own throat. Them fockers are worthless. I had some cheap ass primewell tires on my 93 fox with a built 355 and it lifted the front a little and dead hooked. Cut a 1.8 60' and ran a 8.19 on foot break no stall in the 1/8 mile.

Yea man I drove last year on the stock Bullitts and some All Season Continentals .. I did not have fun lol. So I picked up these Winter only tires (Altimax Arctics) which are supposed to be awesome and I went as skinny as I could safely on 17x8's with 225/45/17. I think those will do a HELL of a lot better in the snow than my Sumitomo HTR Z 315/35/17 <-- I don't want to even imagine what it would be like riding on those in the snow; possibly = instant death lol.

I'm not a fan of driving my GT in the snow but I have two choices.. either drive my Stang or my Vette. I hate to say it but as bad as it might feel at times in the Stang, it feel a lot safer than riding in my Vette - I took it out a few times a couple winters ago and holy shit! I will never do that again lol the ass is so light and it really shows when you are driving on ice lol.

lmao apparently someone doesn't like the roads in GA...Does that stuff pot-hole bad though? NJ is pot hole city from central jersey and up, so that's the downside.

Not really. But these city morons around here like to bury man hole wit pavement then cut it all up and put cold patch in its place which eventually from heavy vehicles riding on it packs it down and creates a sharp edge so it sounds and feels like ur hittin a curb at 45mph. My friend hit one just as I discribed in his miata and it blew the passenger airbag and shattered his windshield. Insurance company totalled his car too cause of the cities lack of common sense

Man that sucks for your friend. The way you describe those roads remind me of a number of places over here in DC. Seems like construction/road work is non-stop and there's always new shitty spots popping up .
