Procharger idle pulley and water pump pulley too close?
Has anyone else had this problem? My belt is rubbing between the ati idle pulley and the water pump pulley.
Should I buy a smaller idle pulley? The tensioner seems to be in the right place... |

That is def not right. Im thinking you have your belt run wrong or you have a under drive pulley on your water pump

My first guess is that you have an underdrive waterpump pulley. My installation manual indicates that the 00-04 are the same. The 99 is different. I had the same problem. I couldn't get it to fit because the previous owner put on underdrive pulleys. I had to buy a crank pulley and instead of getting a stock waterpump pulley I bought a Miezere electric water pump. If you only replace the water pump pulley and you leave the underdrive crank pulley then you won't make enough boost. If this is your problem then it has to be replaced. The stock crank pulley is 6.5".
What size supercharger pulley are you running? If I could do it all over again instead of paying for a stock crank pulley I would buy a 10% over drive pulley. But if you are running a small supercharger pulley it would make too much boost.

Nah the water pump pulley is stock, I believe. I bought an after market crank pulley at 6.5" (stock) since my harmonic balancer was losing its rubber. The idler pulley was just too big...
Going to pull it and replace it this week. I'll dyno tune it friday and let you guys know what I run. |

So I need help... I got a smaller idler puller, the 1.95 but the belt is still touching just slightly... I tried a larger belt than recommended to hopefully bring the tensioner back just enough to clear it, but it's still rubbing... my only option seems to be a smaller water pump pulley??
Thoughts?? |

try to get a part number off the water pump pulley and make sure its not an under drive pulley.

I can't tell very well from the picture but your entire bracket appears to be lower than mine. I was wondering if you might be missing a part. There is an offset adapter that attaches to the bottom altenator bolt. The bolt that goes through the ProCharger idler pulley screws into the offset adapter. It raises the bracket and idler pulley up away from the belt on the water pump pulley. Are you using that offset adapter?

It took me forever to scan this but here is a page from my installation manual. The bottom right drawing shows the idler pulley and the offset adapter.

Is is possible that you put the offset adapter on upside down? I still think your bracket is setting lower than mine.

the offset adapter is just a spacer though, i dont see how that would have any impact on the location of the ati idler

It's not exactly a spacer. The bolt that goes through the idler pulley could have just replaced the one that goes into the altenator brace. But then the belt would rub. Look at the drawing. The idler pulley bolt is above the one that goes into the altenator. The offset spacer raises the idler pulley about 3/8". If it happened to be put on upside down it would lower the idler pulley about 3/8".

Because everyone loves pictures:
Procharger: ![]() ATI Pulley and Water Pump, belt is still barely touching with the new 1.95 ati idler: ![]() We tried a bit larger belt, hoping that the tensioner would fall back enough for belt to clear: ![]() Reverse angle (behind the supercharger): ![]() As you can see, the mechanic made a spacer for the ati idler, since it apparently didn't come with the offset spacer. |

I hope it fixes your problem. Good luck.
Edit: I do like pictures. I noticed on the installation page I posted that you did need the 1.95" idler pulley.
