Before and after dyno runs with a powerpipe
The shop that does all my work had a dyno day over the weekend so we thought we would see what kind of gains a powerpipe makes. We ran my car with the stock Vortech intake and then tossed on the powerpipe. It was an Anderson unit that was being used on a Procharger so we had to modify it a bit.
First video is with the Vortech intake and it made 370.57rwhp/367.88rwtq Second video is with the powerpipe installed and it made 396.47rwhp/381.04rwtq. So a gain of about 25hp. Not too bad. Looks like it is time for a powerpipe. Dyno - YouTube Dyno run with Powerpipe - YouTube

That's pretty cool, should have done one with the blower open. A f1c saleen picked up 53rwhp and 36rwtq going from an afm power pipe to an open blower.

Did they tweak the tune at all after powerpipe installation or is that raw data with the powerpipe being the only change?

No they did not tweak the tune. This was raw data. He will retune it after the pipe gets installed permanently.

ya temps will play a huge role
props to do that, that's very neat to see. that's mm&ff stuff right there without all the stroking magazines do to advertisers. did your a/f ratio stay safe or change much? i always heard you'd need a retune

Very nice. Powerpipes usually gain 1-2psi so 26rwhp from a 2psi gain on an intercooled setup sounds about right.

He did the comparison the very same day. Made a pull, then put the powerpipe on.

it was cooler when he first dynoed it but it was warmer when he just had it dynoed so his numbers were lower. i was asking him why the numbers were lower than what they were about a year or so ago but it seems as if the warmer weather was the cause of the lower numbers. Re-tuned with intercooler

Warmer weather, possibly some belt stretch so the car could have been down about 1 psi.

They had been doing back to back runs on the dyno and it was hot so that may have played a part also. Almost 20 cars before mine hit the rollers. Overall I was very impresed ith the gains. I don't think I want to push the car much more over that limit for fear of blowing the engine.
They were not doing anything with AFR's so I don't know if it was any different. The guy running the cars said mine was still pulling when he left off so there might be more in it. When I get it installed I will run it again to see what final numbers and AFR's are.

Most power pipes I've seen on back to back runs with the normal 3.6 vortech pulley pick up about 1lb and 10rwhp. Still not bad. I've heard (not seen) but another user added on that was running 13lbs of boost and it jumped to 15.5lbs and picked up 30rwhp. I still need to put mine on but what I wonder out of all this is can you FEEL the difference in power before and after.

I'm sure the best dyno numbers come from no filter or just a filter on the blower itself (blow through maf) with the hood open and fans on the car. But i bet the best numbers for driving come with a power pipe, hood down and the filter in the fender well. The engine bay gets over 200 degrees stopped and nots not nearly as cool as the fender even when doing 60mph. I would think the plain filter would suck a ton of heat pulling air right behind the radiator.

The powerpipe also worked great with my procharger. It's a must for the centri guys imo
