timing chain kit question.

I'm looking around for these timing drive kits with new chains and tensioners. and i found kits that seem to be fairly priced on latemodelrestoration. However, the cloyes kit is for 96-98. the trickflow is for 96-04. and ford racing is only shown as 01-04. is there a misprint here or is there a detail im missing out on? i dont mind buying trickflow stuff i have faith that they make quality parts, but why would the others not be available for a 2000 gt also? ive noticed as the car gets more miles it seems to be getting noisier so im trying to restrore my motor and avoid damage. im at 116k now

The difference is going to be for the cam gears.... some are pressed onto the cams and some are bolted on. Whatever you do, don't install the plastic tensioners..... find a kit that includes steel tensioners. I'm not a fan of plastic.

so trickflow was the only company to make cam gears to fit both press and bolt on styles? and which companies have the steel tensioners? there isnt a clear cut description about this.. the pic for trickflow looks like plastic and ford racing looks steel.. but again there is no ford racing or cloyes option for a yr 2k car

The tensioners are the same for 92-current on the 2V motor. I'd go with Ford if they offer them in steel. If you want to buy a different kit go ahead and just order two Ford tensioners.

so the 01 -04 kit with steel tensioners will fit my motor? or should I buy the trickflow kit that fits the 99-04 and buy ford racing tensioners so i have steel arms is the best way to go im thinking? but the problem there is tracking down ford racing tensioners alone. without the gear sets and chains and junk..
just a thought here please disregaurd.. WHY DONT THEY MAKE MAINTAINANCE EASY?!?!

You honestly don't need to change the gears. I've never seen a set worn out even at 300k miles. Just order up a new set of chains and guides from MHS and leave everything else original. The tensioners will be good 99% of the time. The iron ones with the locking mechanism are the ones to have. If I was you I would order up the guides and tear it down. If the original guides arent worn to the metal then just leave the stock chains. Most people never change them. My buddies cobra has been running the stock ones for 150k miles and we just rebuild it and used them again. When compared to a new set of chains there was no wear. Amazing I know but this isnt a pushrod motor your working on. The only chains I've seen break are ones thats been ran all the way through the tensioner and into the oil pump

You can buy the steel tensioners from the parts counter at any Ford dealership.

I bought my steel tensioners from Advance auto and all of my other timing components.. When you get ready to pull your cover let me know I tried a different tecnique last night that took me about 20 minutes the have the cover off.. Like nighmare said you just need to replace your chains, tensioners, and guides cam gears should be just fine.

okay, at MHS iron tensioners are available and will be ordered soon. now about the chain guides both curved and straight, do you recommend steel backed guides from an earlier year? because the oem guides for 99-04 are plastic. MHS states i need a couple new bolts from an auto parts store or off another motor in order to run the steel backed guides. if the oem is plastic, isnt that safe enough? never heard of them failing..

I would stick with the plastic ones. Sometimes the metal ones wont work on windsor motors due to the block not be drilled in all the needed locations.
