i was getting a quote for my hood painting and when i lifted the hood i noticed some white gunk on the part my upper radiator hose is connected to. I am new to working on and diagnosing my own car so I could use some help please:
1. what is the part the hose connects to? 2. what could be causing the leak? 3. how can it be fixed? here are some pics, thanks guys... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Looks to me like your upper hose. In the picture you have White dried scum around the hose and it will leak down and scum up the rest of the parts below it. Just my .02

I hope that's all it is, but idk...I'm going to clean it off and then see if it comes back at all. There's no focal location though, if it was all from the hose I think you'd see it piled up in one spot more right?

That part the hose connects to is the thermostat housing. It's a bit hard to tell exactly where it is leaking from the pics, I would clean all the gunk off and drive it around and see if you can tell where it's coming from

You can try and tighten the 2 bolts on the thermostat housing, but from the way it looks in the pics I think you have a leaking manifold gasket.
The thermostat housing has a rubber O-ring where it meets the intake manifold. Most coolant leaks occurr at the manifold gasket.
