Do I need a headliner?

Hey guys, as many of you know I have been restoring a vandalized 01 convertible GT. I am going to be installing a new top on Weds/Fri of this week. I was wondering if I need to install a headliner? The other one is junk, but I heard that mustangs did not have headliners until 1991 anyway. I would like to save the $150 and time on the install if its only function is to cancel noise. Any advice is appreciated.

i would suggest getting an installation video. it would tell you everything you need to know.

installing a top isnt like installing any other part on the car.

the vid would also let you know about what you need to do about the head liner.

I bought an installation video from late model restoration and it does not say how to replace the headliner. What dvd did you buy?

If you're talking about the top since its not really a headliner, they sort of suck to do.

The most i can remember from my doing install of them at the shop is, there is phillips screws holding on the back mouldings/quarter mouldings. WE did have to unbolt the rear quarter glass(mark the bolt holes) since it'll save you adjustment time. Rear seats out, quarter trim out. and the rest wasn't too bad after that. I cant remember all the steps though, just that it sucked.

I am replacing the top, but I also bought the headliner that goes below it. My question is: "Do I need a headliner?"

U don't need one, there for appearances only, but real easy to put in, they just staple to same tack strips top is stapeled to and a few torx screws along side, but if u decide u do want the headliner down the road then ur gonna have to take top back off again cause the staple tabs for liner kinda wrap-around pole and top will b in way.if u can use a stapler then u can install a headliner
