Fuel Cell??

Ive been thinkin about ditchin my gas tank and puttin a fuel cell in place. My main question is, would there be anyway i could do this and have it wired to my factory fuel gauge? I dont want to have to run an aftermarket gauge cause then my factory gauge would show empty all the time and the fuel light would stay on and i like my cabin clean, not full of gauges and shit like a ricer. (no offense to those with extra gauges) Is this possible? Id like the functionality of everything i have now just a fuel cell in place of the tank.

I may have found my own answer! Summit has a plastic 16 gallon fuel cell with fuel level sending unit for $170. Not a bad price at all. But in the description it does say that the sending unit uses a GM-type fuel level gauges. Would this be rewired to fit my harness?

It probably just sends a 1-12V signal so it should work....... im not big on electronics so its purely a guess.

Yea. I wonder if I'd have to jack a sending unit plug off a gm and splice it into mine? I'm pretty confident I can make it work. There's a reason I'm an electrician

Like Doc Brown would say.... PRECISELY!!! All the sending unit is is a rheostat. Works the same on all of em, unless you upgrade to an aviation style capacitance probe... which would be stupid in a car.

16 gallons would retain close to my stock fuel tank capacity. And the reason im goin fuel cell is because im doin away with the big ol waste of space tank and goin to build a rear mount turbo set up. Ive been contemplating this for a while and made a thread or two about it and everyone says go On3 setup. Im not doubting on3's stuff, Its just ive got brand new longtubes and i wanna keep it as stock lookin as possible. I like the results of a STS kit and the efficiency of it and not to mention the loud turbo spool u hear. Im not lookin to build the next worlds fastest street car just something that i like, something unique, and something that will give my car the extra horsepower im looking for.

You guys are wrong... they work on poteniometers. Ford is 16-158 ohm and GM is 0-90 ohm.

I suggest 20 gallon almuminum cell. And summit will sell your correct sending unit too... You just need more research is all.

Fuel cells suck... I hate mine I want my sumped tank back...

You can take your stock tank and weld a sump on it and then you don't have to cut up the trunk and fill it like a normal car.

If you plan on using the trunk, its a pain in the ass, and if you have yours vented properly then they make everything smeel like fuel.

DO NOT BUY PLASTIC!!!!! It warps and leaks ALL THE TIME. I wasted $180 on a RCI Plastic and it leaked constantly! I ended up buying an Aluminum Jaz 15G tank and it works great!

And the fuel light does not go on if you have an aftermarket gauge. Mine stays off and i have an aftermarket one. They do not make a sending unit that will work with our cars.

I have it vented in two places with the proper vents. I still smell fuel back there. Idk if its from occasionally where I spill fuel or when filling up from my jug or what but I always thought it was strange.

Ha! Precisely why I don't lay claim to anything electrical! Thanks for providing the OP with the proper information!
