Any body know how to make my heater warmer? Mine is warm now but its cold up here in Alaska and I know it could be a lot better.

Any ideas?

+1 to the thermostat. A higher temp t-stat will have hotter coolant circulating in the system, which means more heat getting in your cabin.

Also, a coolant system flush will get any crud out of the heater core, which should help heat transfer, as would adding a surfactant like Redline's Water Wetter or Royal Purple's Purple Ice.

First off, what is your operating temperature? Does your engine even truly warm up?

In lieu of a thermostat, you can create your own "winter fronts." Many HD trucks run these in cold climates to retain both engine heat as well as cabin heaters. All they do is effectively reduce the amount of area on the radiator that is exposed to airflow. You can get real fancy ones, but some guys even just duct-tape cardboard to their grille.

Just don't go overboard and keep an eye on the temperature. If you cut off too much air it could overheat. You can add a little on, try it, add a little more, and repeat as desired. Plus if it's just cardboard if it gets too warm you can rip it off.

Here's an example used on a Dodge Ram in a cold climate- This is an aftermarket piece that can be foleded and buttoned in different positions to adjust airflow.

Replace your thermostat. If it fails in the open position, it'll always circulate coolant through the radiator, and it will take forever to warm up, if it ever gets there.

A new thermostat won't let that happen until the coolant reaches the temp the thermostat is rated for. I just bought one yesterday for the mustang, I think it's a 195*F unit.

Move south. Your heater will kick ass year round in south Georgia or any part of Florida.
