The easy answer is yes. Expeditions were available with the 5.4 and I believe early models were available with the 4.6. A 5.4 will bolt in but will not be a direct bolt in swap. Any 4.6 2V is a direct bolt in swap. The 4.6 2V came in vans, trucks, crown vics, thunderbirds, exploreres, mustangs and probably a few more that i'm leaving out. If you're looking to replace your motor I would suggest finding a 4.6 2V from an 02-05 Explorer as it uses an aluminum block and will give you some weight savings.

Yeah there are many people on the site that have done the 5.4 swap. Not sure if it will fit under the stock hood though.

Lincoln Aviators have an aluminum 4v 4.6 if you can find one.
