Head Gaskets..... What do you all like?
Just as the title says, I am finally having my shortblock fixed and am wondering about going with the copper head gaskets. Just wondering what others are using.
Remember I am looking at pushing 18 psi boost. |

I've always heard good things about Cometic. They're expensive, but that's what the shop I used to work at built all their engines with

I'm running Fel-Pro PermaTorque Multi-Layer Steel Head Gaskets. I'm not running boost but I plan on going SC in the future and I feel comfortable using these gaskets. I don't think I plan on running anywhere near the boost you are running. I also replaced the head bolts with ARP bolts. I could have passed on the head bolts but I figured they would pay for themselves eventually.

i have run oem mls gaskets, felpro mls gaskets with no issues. head studs are a big key factor when it comes to keeping the heads from blowing a gasket. as for copper gakets they work great but they requrie a retorque once installed. i have heard good things about cometic gaskets just never tired them.

Felpro permatorque here with 20ish # boost... Other than that, oem gaskets, which some people claim that felpro makes for ford. Would not surprise me if it is true.

COmetic are good but from what Ive read they are so strong they make the weak point on the system the pistons/rings. SO instead of blowing a head gasket you now ruin your pistons.

Fel-pro gaskets with ARP studs for me. My engine builder was fine with that for maxing out a D1 in the future.

Well looks like Cometics is what I am going with. They have to best reviews and from what I can gather they will hold up to alot of abuse. I already have ARP's head studs. I just want this to be the last time to take this thing apart.

Fel pro mls. Used tons of them and never had any problems. If you really wanted to you could spray them with copper spray, but there aren't any pits or anything to fill in so you might be actually degrading them? None the less great gaskets no issues here

The fel pro gaskets are $40 each and the cometic are over $100. Plus I would say that more people use oem and fel pro than cometics by a long shot, so that should mean something.

I just got the order done and talking to my engine builder and he just told me to go with the Trick-Flo's. He said that he has seen better results with them. Thanks guys for the help. Here in about a month I should have my car back on the road. And then comes the DYNO....lol!
