Reinforce pinch welds?

Question:

I have subframe connectors but my jack doesn't fit underneath them since the car is lowered and my jack sucks. Its also a lot easier to toss the jack under the pinch welds but they are getting bent more an more every time I use them.

Would it harm the car at all to weld in some right angle steel along the bottom floor pan and the inside of the pinch weld to add some strength to it? (provided I didn't blow through the floor or start anything on fire, of course)

I don't have pictures, but this is the style of metal I'd be using, and I would probably run as long a piece as possible along the pinch weld to disperse any weight. I suppose it could make the car marginally stiffer as well, but the subframes already do that. Thoughts?

Even reinforcing it with angle iron won't be enough in my opinion. You'd still be absorbing most of the force into the floor pan. My suggestion would be outriggers welded between the subframes and the rocker as a jacking point.

Or just drive up onto some 2x10's before jacking up the car...

Do you have any pictures of what this would look like? Is this similar to the beefed up subframe connectors I've seen? I'm also not that confident in my welding abilities to add a new jacking point which is why I want to reinforce whats already there. Are you thinking if I reinforced them it would put more stress of the floor pan and bend that instead?

I'm going to have to do that. The only problem with that is if I have a flat and have to change it on the side of the road

Thanks guys!

If you're not that confident in your welding ailities you're not going to be able to effectively reinforce the pinch welds either. The pinch weld is nothing more than the side of the floorboard of the car spot welded to the rocker. If you look back through my posts I just posted this weekend pics of my through floor subframe connectors. In those pics you will find pictures of the outriggers that tie the frame rails into the rockers as I'm suggesting. Do you really jack your car up that often to even consider this as an option? Ever considered ramps? My car is low too, I back the rear tires onto ramps with no issues though.

Carrying around 2 - 2x10 pieces that are 6 inches long wont add much weight to the trunk if your worried about a flat
