General 460 question

so ive got a 460 in a toy and it is losing oil pressure when it warms up (normal i know) but it cold starts in the dead middle of "normal" and after 20 mins is off the gauge low, it comes back up with RPMs but is still super low. thoughts? suggestions? im going to get an aftermarket gauge today and see if i can get a accurate numerical reading. im debating just going to a stupid heavy oil lol or doing a high volume pump. how hard is it to change the oil pump? i realize this could be due to main bearings and oil pump but im not in a position right now to tear down the motor this is in my DD. thanks guys.

460 or a 4.6? If it's a 460 you have to drop the pain to replace the pump. If it's a 4.6 the pump sits on the crank snout behind the timing cover. Two completely different animals.

460 as in the big block made forever that made like 13456ftlbs and 25hp. i thought it was a pan dropping scenario is it drop the pan, drop the pick up tube, and its right there? that easy?

Yes sir. Correct. I think your hp numbers are slightly skewed but the torque number is pretty close.

Yes, run the 20-50 and see what happens. Some will run along time with low oil pressure.

I'm a member there too! Hunt me down if you want too! good luck!! Yes, if you want to do it right you will rebuild it. I was just stating that it might make the winter with heavier oil, maybe hv pump. You said it was dd, and didnt have time to rebuild now. Haven't been on 460 ford forum for a long time- sold my 90 gt mustang drag car 3 yrs back.

If you decide on rebuilding, for peformance check with lem and charlie evans, lots of info and good prices at evans ford. They would have all you need from parts to shortblocks, and charlie does some very nice port work on heads, one of the best I know.
