Intake Manifold Removal/Reinstall

I finally got all the parts needed to install the FRPP intake manifold. I bought it from American muscle with discount for 169.19.*

I bought gaskets and 01-04 alternator bracket from ford. They were cheaper there than at autozone.*

Parts list:
•Intake manifold with aluminum crossover. 169.19
• 01-04 GT alternator bracket. 17.25
• thermostat gasket. 9.06
* * • intake manifold upper gasket. 20.20
• plenum gasket. Came with manifold

Total= 215.70

You can re use your old bracket if you cut it up. I choose to just buy a new one.*

TOOLS:

•Flat head screw driver
• 1/4" and 3/8" ratchets/extensions
• 7,8,10,14mm sockets
• 5/16" sae socket*
• torque wrench
•Channel locks
• 6-12 pack of your favorite beverage*

THIS IS MY FIRST WRITE UP SO PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF I MISSED ANYTHING. The install took me about 3 hours.

Removal:

Park your car where you choose to work on your mustang. It was rainy today so I pulled into the cramped garage.*

Next is to disconnect the inertia switch to relieve the fuel pressure. Located in the left side of the trunk behind the carpeting.*

Next, start the car until it runs out of gas. Can take 10 seconds to 10 minutes. Mine took about four minutes.*

Next, disconnect the negative side of your battery. *Mine was a 5/16"*

Now you should remove the cold air intake piping from MAF to TB using a flat head screw driver and removing sensors and hoses.*

Next is to remove all sensors. IE, tps, iac, etc. I labeled them so I don't mix them up.*

Next, remove your upper radiator hose using channel locks. I drained about a gallon of *coolant out so it didn't spill when I removed the hose.*

Next, unbolt the alt bracket using a 8mm. 4 bolts.*

Differences in the 99-00 and 01-04 brackets.*

Next, Remove thermostat housing/thermostat . Two 10 mm bolts.

Next, unplug injectors and remove the COP's using a 7mm.*

Next, remove the egr valve. Two 10mm bolts and push it up and out of the way.*

Next, unbolt the five 8mm bolts holding the plenum down. Push it out of the way.*

Next, remove the fuel rails. You can use a deep socket or open end wrench
There will be four 8mm bolts

Next, remove this part (unsure of the part name)*Two 10mm bolts.*

Next, remove the heater core hoses on back of intake manifold. And make sure you removed all hoses, connectors that will prevent you from removing the manifold.

Next, remove the old gaskets making a smooth, flat surface. When you put the new gaskets on, there will be tiny tabs you can clip in to make sure they are straight.*

Once you get the new intake manifold on you'll need to tighten the bolts holding the manifold in a certain order and torque to fords spec.*

18ft/lbs here is the torque sequence:

Reinstall:*
Reverse the removal steps

Also be sure to switch this part over to the new manifold *(unsure of what it's called)

Finished with the install

Make sure to add coolant if you drained some like I did. Start the car and check for any leaks. Enjoy your new intake manifold and be worry free of the infamous plastic intake manifold cracking and causing all sorts of problems. Trust me, I learned the hard way.*

It was a pretty straight forward install. I had to remove the tabs on gaskets to make it work. Other than that it went very smooth.
