o/r X Install

Hey guys! Today I'm supposed to be installing my new BBK o/r X midpipe. I'm heading over to use my friend's lift at their garage to make this a little easier. I'm really hoping for some better sound from the exhaust like a louder, meaner tone. I currently have Flow Super 44s. May be changing out the flows at some point but havent decided what/when that would be. So for now they will remain part of the car. I'll post a current exhaust vid now and then another with the new X when it's finished. I'll try to throw in a few pics as well.

Yeah that's what i'm hoping for. The flows just arent loud enough by themselves for me. I want something that people can hear coming, just not too obnoxious.

install should be straight forward. just dont forget to buy a new passenger gasket. you will hate yourself afterwards if you forget this step.

trust me, been there done that.

I'm guessing that it's probably worn out and will cause leaks?

yea, it will MOST likely cause an exhaust leak. I know a guy who reused his one time and had no problems at all. I wouldn't risk it tho.

The guy at the ford parts told me the gasket has a special sealant and after you remove it the sealant wears out

the gasket cost like 8 bucks and you can find it at your local ford dealer.

Don't want to thread jack but I've got a catted x pipe. I am thinking of cutting the cats off, going to exhaust shop and they'll weld straight pipes in place for a 'o/r x'. I don't have a sct and a tuner shop is over 2 hours away. All it will cause is a check engine right? No harm to motor?

I'm getting Mac LTs and o/r h next month with sct. So I just wanna gear o/r x for a little bit.

Ive heard some ppl say it makes the car run rich and ive heard some others say it doesnt hurt the motor at all. I ran mine in an o/r x setup for a few months before i put cats on. I could make the CEL go away with the y=tuner but after like 200 miles or so it would come back. after I put the hi flow cats on no CEL period. So to answer you not sure bc some say it doesnt but others say it does. It made my car feel a bit laggy off the line with the o/r setup I noticed it within a few miles of leaving the shop after having cats welded on. So from MY experience it felt a lil slower down low in the o/r set up vs hi flow catted set up. And it may sound dumb to some but it seems as if my mileage dropped a little bit with the o/r setup. But different ppl will have different opinions on it. It was decently loud but would I do it again NO. after comparing the feel and sound of my o/r setup vs hi flow set up. You nay love it though some of my co workers did.

and when I ran my o/r x str8 piped it was loud and toneless and also kinda ran like $hit so to speak it was LOUD and slow feeling I within an hour was willing to pay the shop to re install my mufflers that same day and i did so.

All you will get is the CEL. No harm to the motor. My cel came on about 2 miles down the road after the install. My sct said it was causing the car to run extremely lean, and it caused my idle to nearly stall out every time i stopped. Thank god for SCT because I changed my idle rpm's to stay higher, and I modified the car to run more rich. The cel immediately went away after re-tuning.

Overall the install went well. The car sounds like an absolute monster now! Now my issue...The previous owner welded in my super 44s when he owned the car. And I must say they are the worst welds I have ever seen. The mufflers were bent and nearly hitting every moving part under the car, and my exhaust tips were about as crooked as you can imagine. So during the install we were unable to "properly" align the x-pipe. We couldn't adjust the mufflers to where they need to be and so we did the best possible job we could to work around the issue. This caused the midpipe connection to be a little offset with the manifold. And this lead to one hellacious exhaust leak. Pretty much the only way to fix the problem is for me to buy a completely new cat-back and realign the entire exhaust so we can make connections fit properly and straighten my tips. Unfortunately for me, I don't have the money for a new catback ATM so I will just let it go for now until I can save the money. None-the-less, I am more than satisfied with this midpipe. My car sounds amazing now and I swear everybody stares as I pass them. Definitely an attention getter! Tomorrow I will vid my new exhaust clip and post it along with a few before/after pics. I highly recommend the bbk o/r x to anyone looking to upgrade their exhaust.

I might need to get rid of them anyway. The previous owner installed them crooked and it misaligned my whole exhaust. My midpipe is barely hanging off the ground and doesn't seal up to the manifold and I have a massive exhaust leak because of it. I'll have to replace the entire catback to fix the problem.

Are you sure it was the previous owners? I know a lot of the mustangs come stock from factory with the flowmasters welded in... and usually it sounds very tinny and horrible
