You will probably be disappointed if you only do the cams. You need all the supports to let the cams work. Just my opinion.

heads and cams are a great combo. if you were to go with vt you would probably looking around 3k for parts install and tune
probably gain about 30rwhp im guessing, really depends on tune

Since I don't know what you already have, I will take it from the top. CAI, 75mm TB, Plenum, Pullies, Full exhaust, Ported heads, Cams, An awesome tune, Good valve springs, Oversized valves, and some serious elbow grease. That should put you around 310 HP.
Or.................... You could buy my car and call it a day.

well you think cams 600, heads 1200, tune 500, rest for install. all depends where you go for install and tune.
but ya before heads and cams, get intake tb and plenum maybe. catback, midpipe

OH, Well, where to start?
The heads were ported by acmillr Motorsports. They have been decked .010", I installed comp springs, 1mm oversized valves, and ended up with 48cc combustion chambers. The cams are comp 270's. It has an Accufab TB and Plenum, JLT cai, 85mm MAF, 32 lb. injectors, EGR delete kit (another fine custom fab piece from acmillr Motorsports), BBK ceramic coated tuned shorty headers, Pypes x-pipe, Pypes catback, Ford Racing 3.73 gears, Steeda competition springs, Steeda full length subfran=me connectors, Hurst shifter, Cobra R deep dish wheels (17x10.5 out back), Sumitomo tires, Mach1 grille delete and chin spoiler, BBK underdrive pullies- Ummmmm, I think that's about it. It put down 312HP/326TQ on a dynojet dyno at Dynospeed in Memphis. Oh yeah, it has a 4-bank SCT switch chip tuned and installed by Joe Beegle.
