That's an understatement. Ha

From what I've been told. 4:10's with no plans of sc. 3:73 with sc.

Lol at 4.10s with no plan of supercharging. That's a dumb statement.

Op! Just go drive around on the highway with your car in 4th gear, the rpm's you'll be running around at whatever speed you decide to drive in will be pretty close to what cruising in 5th would be like with 4.10's. This won't tell you a whole lot but will give an idea of how your car will be running at highway speeds with those gears. When I bought my car it came with 3.73's and although I don't have any complaints with them, I would jump up to a set of 4.30's in a heart beat if I didn't have plans for more power and the occasional blast down a drag strip. If I were you, the 4.10's would be my choice, their isn't much of a difference in cruising rpm's between them and 3.73's but that extra little bit of gearing advantage will help get your car moving off the line and help keep it in the peak of the power curve. Our cars don't have a broad torque curve like say an LS1 does, so the lower ratio won't allow the rpm's to drop too far on the frontside of the power curve, I can tell with the 3.73's that this happens everytime I shift, due to the motor lugging down slightly. If you have plans for a posititve displacement type supercharger, it won't be quite as bad cause they make boost instantly but if you're planning to go with a centrifugal style the lower ratio will help even more, cause they build boost with rpm's.

I used the wrong terminology to try and get my point across. What I meant was, the speeds at each rpm per gear are going to be different, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but will end up being an adjustment, and the added torque multiplication of the shorter rear gears will change how the car handles throttle inputs at speed in each gear, etc. Not necessarily a bad thing, but one more aspect to balance out.

I agree with this. My car has 4:10's with an Eaton and I absolutely LOVE it!

If you get to a point where you're running out of gear all the time just go to a taller tire.

I went with 4.10's with full bolt ons and was a bit disappointed. If I knew I would have went with 4.30's. Even now with the supercharger the 4.10's are fine. Car still feels slow at times and I still tend to side step 2nd gear quite a bit in the summer.

Your said you drive mostly city, some highway, don't care about gas mileage, and you have a manual transmission. With that criteria I would suggest 4.10 gears. 4.10s are not a problem in the city because you just drive in the next higher gear. Some people have reported increased city gas mileage with 4.10s. You have a later model T3650 transmission with a .62:1 fifth gear. That means with 4.10s your highway rpms will be about the same as mine (T45/3.73 gears). So you should still get around 24 mpg highway. that is what I get. Since you have a manual transmission your top end in fifth will probably increase not decrease. Top speed isn't limited by rpms. Its limited by horsepower vs. air and mechanical resistance. You stop accelerating when you no longer have the horsepower to overcome the resistance. The lower gears get you to your peak horsepower faster. From what I've read 4.10s are 2-3 mph faster on the top end than 3.27s.

The one thing you might not like about 4.10s is the short first gear. Driving normally you will have to shift to second shortly after getting the car rolling.

I have always disliked the "Don't fear the gear" comment. It is too general in nature to be meaningful. You need to pick the gear that best first your application and personality. There is no universally correct gear.
