4.10 vs. 3.73

Ok so I have a 2002 GT and want some gears. Im debating between 3.73 and 4.10. I do mostly intown driving with highway every once in a while. Gas mileage isnt too big of a concern unless I get like 10mpg lol. Just wanted everyone opinions. Thanks

If you have a manual and don't plan on fi the 4.10s. If you plan on fi 3.73s. If you have an auto then 4.10s either way

You'll never get a definitive answer on that. There's a reason that it's the most commonly created thread on this board, lol.

One thing to keep in mind is that those gear ratios are very close.

If you peg out 2nd with 3.73s at 60mph, 4.10s will still have you at 55mph. If you cruise at 70 mph at 2400 with 3.73, you'll only be turning another 240 rpm with the 4.10s.

I went back and forth myself for months...my vote is without a doubt 4.10's. I do quite a bit of highway driving and actually can get better mileage if I keep my foot out of it. I don't think 3.73's would have been enough for me. Search some of the older 4.10 vs 3.73 threads... hundreds of em

Why does everyone say that?? That's so much bs.

Go 4.10s either way. 4.10s with boost is not to much at all. I went from 4.10s with the blower, to 3.73s and regret it. I'm going back to 4.10s in a couple months.

Id consider 4.30s too.

on the highway keeping your foot out of it want matter bc with 4.10s the rpms will be higher on the hwy vs 3.73s so flooring it or not the rpms will be higer with one vs the other and more rpms often means more gas being burnt. its easier/takes a lil less effort for the 4.10s vs 3.73s or 3.23s to get up to speed so in that sense getting on it a bit may make a lil bit of a difference but on the highway a diff story. All that bull aside though OP said he could careless about the mileage and I think the 3.90s would be a happy medium. thats just my opinion though.

But in a short way to answer your question a good answer is "its and endless debate" no definate answer bc opinions vary.

I have 4.10's in mine and love them although I don't have anything to compare them to since I bought it with them. The car is fairly quick and on the freeway at 75 I can average 20mpg still...driving the shit out of the car for a whole tank still yields around 18...

I have 4.10's with my KB, and wouldn't have it any other way. I dont understand where the debate is? 4.10's or nothing.
Unless your car is set up for one specific thing, AX, 1/8th, etc..

Type of boost also matters, as well as power. For example, with a procharger at around 400rwhp, 4.10's should be fine. With a PD blower though, you would want lower since there is instant torque. For example, I will be around 575rwhp with a ported eaton and I have 3.55's

Thats another thing. Right now I only have a couple bolt ons. I was considering heads cams and a tun to get about 300whp or procharge it or put a kb on it ( If I can get the money from my fourwheeler) and get around 380

depending on what heads/cam pkg you want you will be paying the same or even more than some vortech kits. But the procharger kits and kb's seem to be closer in price.
