Need info on a CAM upgrade!


Im looking to buying the Comp cam stage 2 camshafts off AM. it reccomends me purchasing the adjustable cam gears for an extra $290 more. are those really needed or are the stock ones just fine?

Read what I put in your other thread. Don't get Comp cams for TF heads. Get TF cams. The TF heads are completely redesigned and the TF cams are best suited to them. As for the adjustable cam gears, you will absolutely need them. When I degreed my cams I ended up with the passenger side gear retarded by 6 degrees and the driver side advanced 5 to get both cams to the recommended 110 degree intake centerline.

I understand that you have SOHC, but you will have to degree each cam individually. I am SOHC too. The reason I did not go with a crank gear that has the different notches to advance and retard the cams is because of exactly what I ran into. I wouldn't have been able to advance one cam and retard the other because both chains are on the same crank gear. Get the adjustable cam gears.

awesome man. ha they have the exact same cams on summit for the same price. i guess its just where i want to get them from. the TF heads dont come with the rockers. did you upgrade yours?

I'm using stock rockers. Just reuse the ones you have. As for the price, I bought mine a few weeks before Christmas so I got them for $479. I guess that was just a lucky find for me. They came with a hat too though :-)

lucky..... so with those new heads and cams im getting. pluss the xpipe, shortys, FR intake manifold, JLT cai, the FM 10's and an SCT tunner. i wonder how much power im gnna get?

Probably not as much as you'd like to see, but with a good tune it will be a noticeable increase. I'm hoping to see 350 at the rear with my setup, and that's really reaching.

Get the adjustable crank gear it's alot cheaper.. And it's two separate gears so u can adjust each cam separate.. Thats what I have on my Cms stage 2 cams and have had no issues.. And I had send my cams to modular head shop to have them degreed.. Nick does and awesome job and I had my cams back in less than a week

i was at dez racing about two months ago and wih trick flow heads on a gt. he told me the stage 1 cams made more power and tq over the stage 2s. i dont remember what rps he stopped he pull at but it was a comparison woh both cams with both N/A and procharged? maybe vortech? just thought i would throw hat in there. it was a test for muscle mustangs and fast fords magazine. maybe it will be printed soon? ill be looking for that one

I find that hard to believe. The stage 2's have .030 more lift, a bit more duration, and a wider LSA to keep the powerband low enough to be useable in a stock engine but still work well with a built engine. I'd like to see some real dyno sheets for that claim.
