$300 for a Cobra bracket Ford? I think I'll pass. Alternative Inside

This one is for anyone else out there crazy enough to swap an 03/04 Cobra motor into a GT chassis.

One of the problems that isn't quickly and easily resolved is the power steering reservoir bracket. The old one doesn't even come close to working. For the Cobra, you need one that mounts to the pulley bridge.

When I realized this I thought "big deal. I'll drop a few extra bucks for a new bracket." I head on down to the stealership and figure the worst that would happen is I would have to wait a few days for it to arrive. I ask the parts counter guy to look up the part, and he immediately gives me this look- He turns the monitor so I can see and I do the same.

99-04 Mustang GT power steering reservoir bracket: $22
03-04 Mustang Cobra power steering reservoir bracket: $298

No, I am not missing a decimal place. This is for a simple stamped sheet metal bracket, nothing else.

Naturally, I said "Fuck that, I'll make my own." And that's exactly what I did.

I got myself some cardboard and the old bracket to make a template for the new bracket. I traced out the interface on the pulley bridge and overlaid the old bracket on it. Then I unfolded it, traced it out on some 16ga sheet metal and went to town.

The result was one of these puppies, which I will be running on my own build. The 16ga is pretty damn stout, as I found out in the process of making it.

If anyone else needs one, I can sell them for $20, a $278 savings over the Ford OEM.

Damn!! At least your crafty enough to do it on our own. I would've been screwed and have no choice but to buy it. Post a pic of yours once you're done.

That's a robbery... I had an incident where I needed something like that and ford had it for 500 while I found it off latemodelrestoration for 1/3 of the price. I wish I could be as crafty as u, I would have saved a bundle more!

way to go man!
Cobra parts are way too fucking expensive now.

Hey Ford, you would sell more parts if they were not as expensive. More than enough to make up the cost of lowering the price. Just sayin'

Ok, his definitely look better than mine. I did not use a plasma CNC machine to cut mine, nor did I wrinkle coat it.

However mine cost me less than 1/5th of the price.

I'd take yours for $20 over that other one for $100 any day of the week. I bet your design works just as well. And $80 buys a lot of beer and cheetos. Good job bro.
