small accident, help me predict what I broke

long story short, i tried doing a 180 by acceleratin real quick in a real tight space and I hit the curb pretty hard. It broke my rear wheel (no big deal since it was already dented and shaking at high speeds) but also by brakes are making weird noises now, like the brake pad is touching the disk. Also and what worries me the most is that I saw the axle cover or protector or whatever its called slightly covered in oil, all around. Its like dirty oil covering from the differential to the wheel.

I dont know if this is from today, or if the oil was there from before because my top was leaking oil and it was coming down through there.

So if my car runs, doesnt shake too bad (shakes a little, but because I fucked up the wheel), is it still possible I fucked up the axle? or maybe even the differential?

Probably fucked up your rear end. You might've bent an axle tube. Take it and have a shop see what the rear alignment looks like. It could be some control arms, or worst case, an axle tube.

fuck, so far its gonna cost me 178 for the new wheel, im probably gonna need new brake pads and a brake disk. And hopefully I didnt fuck up the control arms, or my worst fear the axle. I driven at 70 mph after the crash and it didnt feel like I fucked up the axle so who knows

and yes lesson learned, no more trying to impress the ladies

Sounds like you blew out the axle seal. Most likely caused by a bent axle.

I would be pulling that thing apart making sure you didn't bust a c-clip.

I know this prob won't make you feel any better, but we have all had our stupid moments. Especially with my 4.10's, I would always love to get a little sideways at every single turn from a stop (which is why I went through a set of tires in a couple months) and one time I tried it in the rain, on campus, with people around (close enough to see my dumb ass, but not in any danger). Well needless to say, roads are different wet than dry, and I spun out and hit a curb (like you) but fortunately for me, I hit it dead-on backwards. So although it scared me and I learned my lesson, there was no damage done. This was also before my car was lowered or the PHB, so it would've probably fucked up my exhaust and/or PHB and/or bumper if it was lowered. Sometimes lessons are learned harder than other times, but it also could have been worse. You could have smashed into another car, done some body damage (which is wayyy expensive), or even hit a person. Axles aren't really a HUGE deal, and it may be a good thing, time for an upgrade to 31 spline . Try to look at it on the bright side like that. I dont remember if you have gears or not, but get an aftermarket diff and 31 spline axles and some 4.10's. If you dont have aftermarket control arms, there ya go too. Brake upgrade? Ya feel me... I know budgets won't allow for all the above, but see what NEEDS replacing, and see if it could be reasonable to upgrade from what you had. I am on a 5hr energy buzz at work and think this may be on the verge of a rant, and when I hit "Post Quick Reply," I think I might be surprised at how long this post actually is, so I am sorry for that. Good luck and let us know if there's anything we can do to help!

EDIT: Yup, I was surprised. Holy fucking rant, my apologies...

kids.....

From those pictures it doesnt look too bad. But first of all, do NOT go 70 MPH with something you are unsure of being broken.... what if that is gear oil and you dif locks up? Get everything checked out by somebody who knows what they are looking at first. You are being very stupid driving it around having no idea if your brakes work or if anything serious is going on....

p.s. those rotors look like they need to be replaced for sure (which im sure means pads as well)

The grease on the axle doesn't look fresh, as in a few hours fresh. Possibly is the top fluid, when my cylinders started leaking, it dripped right around the axles as well. Hopefully it's only the wheel, rotor and pads... at worse, control arm too.

i took the wheel and brake off, and although the brake system seemed to be fine its still making a clunking noise when i move, like the pad gets stuck to the disk and makes the pad move back and forth. the oil was old, it was probably from the convertible top leaking oil. the axle tube and control arms seemed intact.

Can you tell if any part of the wheel hub assembly is bent? try going to autozone and grabbing the cheapest set of pads you can for testing. Take the rotor and get it turned and see what happens.

Maybe it's the caliper also, i know the front calipers are less than $50, rears probably even cheaper.

you bent the axle flange, with the car on stands, put it in gear and watch and see if wheel is running true.... but do this with safety in mind with both wheels off ground, securely supported and stay away from rotating parts
