Fuel Pressure Guage

Couldnt get any help in the electrical section so I thought Id try here...
Has anyone ever used an electric fuel presure guage. I recently put an Autometer one in my car and the thing is all over the place. The needle jumps when it shouldnt, and sometimes it seems to get stuck and read high psi when it shouldnt. The stuff is brand new. The only thing I could think that may be doing this is the sensor is mounted on the fuel rail, so maybe vibration?? Anyone else ever have this type of problem??

if its vibrating on the rail you would be leaking fuel. mine is on the rail witha tee adaptor so i can still use the schrader valve and have no problems. a wacky gauge is usually a bad ground.

thats why I went with all mechanicals - its a little more PITA - but more reliablely accurate

Yeah, I have heard that mechanical are more reliable, but I mounted all of mine inside the compartment area and had to use electrical. it sucks cause they cost more

Yep mechanical is great and cheaper but to run them inside your car you want to run electrical...

Thats how mine sits at idle and you can see it jump as I rev it...

Can you post a video of what yours is doing?

Finally got a video of the guage to post. Wouldnt the psi raise with the rpm? Does this look normal for an electric fuel psi guage?

dude its not a boost gauge, all you need is the fuel pressure to stay at 40psi. If it were to raise it would only be by a couple of psi. It doesn't matter if you are going 2k rpms or 6krpms as long as the gauge doesn't go below 20 or so psi you are good. All the gauge is for is to make sure when you are under boost you don't loose fuel pressure cause that will lead to detonation.

you are gonna be just as pissed with an a/f gauge, you think the needle is funny on the f/p gauge wait till you see the a/f gauge. It will be all over the place. Keep the fuel pressure gauge it is a great safety feature. I mean thats all gauges are meant for is to monitor your car not look cool and the needle doing cool things with the rpms. I think a a/f gauge from autometer is a big piece of shit. If you are gonna go with a a/f gauge get a LM-1 wideband sensor so you can actually hook it up to a laptop and get a/f reading all the time. But i would seriously keep the fuel pressure gauge. Cause you will never know when a fuel pump fails and you are low a fuel pressure and then boom

Fuel pressure does not look bad in that video...Looks fine...

Keep the gauge...Watch the video in my post...

My wideband at idle runs 14.6 - 15.2...Just buy a good wideband...

Listen to what White99stang says...He speaks the troof...

BTW my Wideband is a Innovative XD-16 (gauge) and LC-1 (wiodeband controller)...I highly recommend them...

Never had it stick on me...I would call autometer and ask them what this could be...They can prolly tell you if it could be the gauge messing up...Or it could be an issue with your sending unit...They could help you out on all that...
