Well S1*t... Time For A Short Block.
My birthday gift to myself is now going to be a MMR 900 short block. After getting out of the throttle the other day, the car sounded like I collapsed a lifter. Upon further inspection via scope and #1 cylinder, it appears something had been bouncing around in the damn cylinder! FML.

Seems like a lot of motor failures in the cold weather. Why's that? Maybe not enough fuel supply fot the extra power?

This is the reason I always tell people to get their tune checked out once it gets cold

my car was tuned before in 100+ degrees made 408
6 montsh later it was 60's and just placed up on the dyno and was running a tad lean at 432 rwhp. Its 30 degree out right now.... I would be lying if I told you I couldn't feel the difference in the power of hte car.... the cold air makes a huge difference how many lbs of boost were you rnning op?

You'll blow the motor in the winter a lot easier than in the summer. My tuner provided me with two tunes. One for the summer and one for the winter. My winter tune uses max timing of 12 degrees vs. the summer tune using 15.75 degrees. Even though im pretty confident that my motor won't blow in the winter with either tune because my rwhp is fairly low and im under 10psi, I still do not floor it in the winter for more than a second or two. I didn't bother to change tunes this winter because my tuner said that the summer tune is safe enough to be used year round, but just to be on the safe side I don't keep my foot to the floor.

Wouldn't you be safer with lower timing in the summer vs winter? Since the iats will be lower in the winter?

That sucks about your motor.
Why do ppl continue to hang on MMRs stuff when there are other companies out there way better. Hell most machine shops in MOST ppls local area are better than MMR. Just saying.

Why do you think that? Plenty of people have had great luck with MMR. Only complaint Ive heard of MMR is their oil pumps sucking, but now the shortblocks come with FRPP Cobra oil pumps.

^ thats part of it. But you won't see me or any of my friends buying their stuff.
I don't want to get into it, cause I don't want to sit here and bash a vender on here...NOt that Im really bashing. Just that ppl could save a lot of money by doing it different. I have less than a K in my shortblock...and its big bore and forged. lol. Granted I cams across some deals...but I can do a $1500 shortblock tomorrow that could handle 800hp... Just saying.

Your machine shop can do almost all these 'modular' machine shops can do. They just need to read and get some experience...

What kind of pistons/rods would you use? Just curious because I plan on putting togeather a motor within the next year or so.
