Cams sound like such a cool thing to brag about, but in an auto car, your gains will be ok but not as great as you're thinking they will be.

Convertor, gears and a programmer with some good tires you will cut 1.5-20 seconds off your current time. Throw a $500 nitrous kit and knock another .75 or so off and spend not a lot more than the cams and springs etc that will MAYBE get you .5

Its your car, your time and your money
exactly..........

cams are not going to gain you much (except for a shitty running/driving car) on an auto without the propper converter & gears.

I'd do the gears first in your case & see where your at then.

BTW, 4.10's are a bare minmum on an auto car, you'll gain nothing with 3.73's but a lighter wallet.

4.30s , 3600 stall or 380@ whatever u like. Shift kit or change shift points and rev limit with tuner, full length sub frames and lower control arms. As for bolt ones get a mid pipe with high flow cats or off road if u can pass emmisions and a nice car back exhaust. Those mods you can actually feel. Then long tubes if you can afford it. The intake and throttle body stuff can come much later and like mentioned before isn't the restriction on these cars. In all reality the PI came are quite good and efficient it's the heads that are the most restrictive part of the car. If your going to drop 1500-2000$ on cams I'd say get the trick flow twisted wedge heads and then save for the matching trick flow stage 1-2 cams you will make 330+ with that set up and bolt ons, best heads for the 2v motor hands down.

Agreed on pullies and throttle body. But, plenum with power adder is beneficial. Running 502rwhp with stock TB but with Trick Flow plenum.

Sure, but for his application it would be a waste of money.

The heads arent that bad they are around a 175 or so cc head from the factory. Thats in line with aftermarket pushrod heads.

Hi-Tech stage 2 cams are NOT drop in. Yes, they claim this and I'm currently running this set up. However, I degreed my cams and found passenger side was off 4.5* and the driver side was off 3*. This was enough that if just dropped in I would've had PTV. Make sure whoever installs your cams degrees them!!!

These are my thoughts as well, I've done tires, brakes, and my next step after the LCA's is 4.10's. However, mine is a 100% street car at this point

The easy ones would be gears, LCA's, FLSFC's, exhaust, stall, shift kit.

Stage II cams are generally a pain with 2v's. Stage I's you can usually drop in at the stock timing and without changing valve springs, but go bigger and you need new valve springs (more money) and will have to either notch pistons or retard timing to avoid PTV contact. Not fun.

If you're looking for a bigger jump in power, spray or FI is the way to go.

...or rip out your drivetrain/fuel system and replace with a Cobra one. At least that was my approach instead of bolt ons. But I'm also incurably insane.

BTW I'm about an hour south of you.

yea seeing that the car is auto, i def wold do somethin else. i didnt notice u said that til afterwards. in that case, a stall, 4.10s and an sct tuner. you'll see a dramatic difference compared to stock. and although not cheap for all that totalled, its the best bang for buck in ur situation imo

My cams were just dropped in with trick flow springs, if I were to do it all over I would just do full intake and exhaust and an ON3 turbo kit @ about 9-10psi.

I've seen this advice enough to take heed of it lol

That's why I'm saving up for a used Vortech kit, instead of adding more bolt on's. But the P.O. put most on already anyways...

First off decide what your car is going to be used for is it a DD is it a second day drive in rotation with a second car or is it a weekend warrior. Street car or dedicated track car. Figure out and plan wha your going to use the car for before you just start modding it and then realize down the road that you have to redo stuff. Ate you staying na for a longtime or looking for a power added/ FI/ or noz. I've known a lot of people who have wasted a lot of money doing things and down the road they needed to chage them. Like don't go high compression of your going to go findown the road don't do huge na cams of you wanna supercharge it and don't do pulleys. It your stayig na then all those things are great options. So basically just make sure you have a plan for the car before sinking unnessary money into it.
