from all my research, you want to introduce lots of engine breaking and lots of varying rpm/loads to give the rings a chance to seat. don't beat the heck out of it IMO but take it up to high rpm's with moderate load, and get on it alot at low rpm's.
It would be tough to prove an new engine failure either way. I would think that reason to break and engine in and take it easy at first is to make sure everything is working properly. From a dealer a brand new car or bike has been tested to run and brand new engine us different.

Ive read the same thing bout engine break in. Seems like 3-4k rpm pulls with 50-75% throttle are what most people will say.

I think 5-7 miles is a little ridiculous. Its not the oil getting dirty so much as the oil filter. Even still 5-7 miles is barely anything. I did my initial breakin/tuning and changed the oil bout 150 miles, then 500 and 1000, all regular dino oil. Proceeded with regular oil changes after that.

Sent from my Autoguide iPhone app
After I left the mechanic's place, I beat on it for about 10 minutes so that I could uncover any problems right away. I'd rather break something with 5 miles of the mechanic shop than 3 months later.

I did change the oil right afterwards with dino oil.

Took it to the track that weekend and ran low 12s (trying to get used to the new clutch and flywheel).

Ran 11.49 at 121MPH as a best.
It pulls hard enough (for now).

for warranty purposes? isnt mmr's warrant 1 yr no questions asked? so that means who cares lol....your not going to break in an engine just cruising it under 3k-4k rpms...needs rpms and a lil heat to get rings seated properly

Cruising is HORRIBLE for a breakin!! But running up to 3-4K rpm at 50-75% throttle will give you plenty of pressure to seat the rings.
