I have talked with Pat at Sniper a good bit about working on the 2V tuning (I used to work for SCT many moons ago) We have a project planned together to use the Sniper programming and I have 3 4R70W equipped cars to make sure it handles the trans properly. Not trying to advertise but once/if you see it on my site will be the time I feel its working the trans the way its supposed to. Pat says he has it working good, we will give it a try as I have a nasty lockup program for the torque converter in one of my cars that maybe 10 cars out there went that far. If Sniper can duplicate this one then its a done deal.

BTW - SCT has really good 4R70W control in the tuning as "J" who was one of the founders of SCT also worked for Ford on the 4R70W design.

just curious, will this be an upgrade for the special forces kit or like a free software update? the trans thing is what I hate most about my sniper tuner. I mean when it shifts at 5500 stock, and i tell it to shift 300rpm later, and next thing i know i'm banging off the rev limiter(6400) before it shifts. that pisses me right off.

Wow, good thread.

I will say that I am currently signed up with SCT for their Pro Racer Package (1 lic). Overall it is all the variables that are need to properly tune a radical vehicle or stock vehicle (manual trans).

I would certainly be willing to try out another software like Sniper.

I use Sniper on my car and have for years. I have never had any complaints until I did the auto swap. Unfortunately I cannot say whether or not it is a software issue or if it in fact my PCM itself. The software doesn't even recognize my computer as being out of an automatic even tho it definitely did according to Ford and Chris at Sniper. They do have outstanding customer service from my experience and I would buy again........but I would lean towards the SCT stuff if it is for an auto. From everything I have heard from transmission "experts," the SCT software is the best at controlling the 4r70w.

I really like the datalogging software that comes with sniper kits too. It's top notch.

First time we used Sniper on a NMRA car with the 4R70W we couldn't keep the converter locked no matter what we tried, and we had the car tuned at Sniper. That was 3 years ago and he says that is fixed now. I have been meaning to get over there for a few months now but with things so hectic and busy just haven't been able too. I will say they are a nicer bunch than over at SCT, Pat will go out of his way for ya.

Here is a review of Special Forces from my blog, Commando (which is the same software as Delta Force) is a low-level tune editor that allows access to and alteration of any tune parameter. The Commando package includes Special Forces software as well as the Delta Force editor.

One fundamental issue regarding any system is that the prospective user has to already possess the KSAs (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities) of modern EFI tuning, or be willing to learn them. If you do not have those attributes, or are not willing to learn them, then don't buy any tuning system--just let someone else do it for you.

BTW, Greg Banish's book
Engine Management: Advanced Tuning Engine Management: Advanced Tuning
is another great resource for those who wish to learn...
