Installing Gears?
Just went to a shop down the street from me today to see if i could get an estimate for installing 4.10's... they said it would be around $800... is this what i should be expecting everywhere?

That's pretty high, I've seen shops charge anywhere from 300-600.

That is a bit high, but don't forget that it's a job that will take a fair amount of time. As mentioned above, anything up to about $600 I would consider a fair price.

I got an estimate of almost $700 which I thought was high. Posted that on some other forums and people agreed, so I called around. Found 2 places to do it for under $400. Don't pay that. Keep looking.

Our shops charge 450 installed including the gears. Rebuild kit is extra.

Shops around me $250 is the norm. I do them on the side myself and only charge $100-150 depending on what all they want me to do while I am in there.
Bit of advise while you're at it, if you have not already pick up some new clutches and have them thrown in while they do the gears. |

that $425 isnt all that bad if its from a deent shop. CJ Pony parts charges in the 400-500 ball park if i remember correctly.
2 of my friends do gear installs for $150 if you have all the parts.

I got quoted $400 at 3 different shops, then i ended up doing it myself at a friends place that had all the right tools.
Still running strong and no noises after 7 months.

That $425 may b your best bet then unless you check the closest city and and its only like 20miles away and and alot cheaper.
