Cams..
So i had some cms stage 2's and ported some heads an had some .600 lift springs... Long story short got broke as hell had to sell it all... Well income tax is near an i want a decen gain... But don want to have to do valve springs etc... So im limited to some stage 1's or the hi tech stage 2's... But i saw some where that hitech is having ptv issues? Whats that about? People not timing them im guessing? Im looking real hard at the cms stage 1's... They sound decent and dont require springs... Yalls opinions please?

Whatever cams you get you will be fine as long as you degree them.

From what I have heard, the only thing wrong with the hi techs is that they are not "drop in" as advertised. They need to be degreed to allow for the necessary PTV clearance.

I no longer have my stage 2's i had everything but the money to install and then money got tight an i had to sell them... So thats why im looking at the stage 1's... I dont wanna have to buy springs again... So would yall say the hightech stage 2's are better than the cms stage 1's or comparable stage 1's?

I would go stage one for sure. I always hear about PTV clearance issues on these cars. Some people say that stage one cams will occasionally have PTV issues. Because you are not having notched pistons I would do stage one cams. They sound good and have a more streetable power curve.

When I degreed my new cams on was advanced 7 degrees and the other was retarded 5 degrees. If I used stock gears and just "trusted" that they would be fine, I woulda been leaving a lot of power on the table... if I didn't grenade my engine.

Holy Crap. Ppl are starting to get it on here. All I can do is clap. Kudos guys. Kudos.
Bottom line. Degree your cams. Period. Check PTVC.

Did you ever think that the previous owner didn't install your old cams properly? Im not saying you shouldn't degree them because you should but im just saying since one was advanced and the other bitch was retarded

Its known that the factory cams cam be this way from the factory. The factory tolerances are several percent. Even at just one percent error of 360 degrees you have 3.6 degrees of play. Chances are the factory tolerances are a few percent so 5 percent +/- would be completely acceptable by factory standards.

I "dropped" in Comp 262's and haven't ran into any problems. I did a mail order tune and picked up 2mph in the quarter with no other changes other than cams.
I'm sure a cam degree and dyno tune would net more power but it wasn't worth the money or time for me to go through the hassle since the car only has maybe 290rwhp and gets spanked all day long by all of my friends 03 cobras and ls1s! |

What I said has nothing to do with the previous owner. I installed new cams with new adjustable gears. What I was saying is if with my adjustable gears were set to zero then one cam would've been advanced and the other retarded. I was simply pointing out the importance of degreeing your cams.

Just curious, what did that end up costing you to send them, degree them, and send them back?
