I have an auto and on the highway cruizing at 75mph my rpms are @ 2500. with my stock gears at that speed it was at 2000-2050rpm. My mpg hwy went from 25-26mpg hwy to 22-23mpg hwy. My city mileage is about the same or a lil bit better since it take a lil less effort for the car to get rolling with the non stock/3.27 gears.

I don't mean to come off as a dick. But OP would have had the answers already w/o making a new thread if the topic was searched before hand. I'm guilty of making reposts but I usually try to google everything before I start another topic up.
I always when search with 'xxxxxxxxxx moddedmustangs.com'. That's how I've been reading about hitech vs mhs cams. Back on track. I've just bought 4.10's awaiting for them to arrive so I can't answer about city vs highway. But you'll be happy with them.

I believe the AR70W auto gear ratios first through fourth are: 2.84, 1.55, 1.00 and 0.70. Some references put fourth at .67. My T-45 3.38, 2.00, 1.32, 1.00 and .67. Because of the much higher first and second gears you need a lower rear end gear ratio to get the same performance. With 4.10s your total gear ratio in first will be about the same as my car with 3.31 or 3.55 gears (11.64 vs 11.19 or 12.00). In first, your car with 3.73s has a total gear ratio less than my car with stock gears. I would have had to down grade to 3.08 gears to be comparable (10.59 vs. 10.41). The high first gear in autos is why everyone says you need 4.10 gears.
Don't get me wrong. You will see increased performance with 3.73s. Just not as much as with 4.10s. As said before people with 4.10s report same or higher city mpg because you just drive in the next higher gear. You will probably see a 2-3 mpg drop in highway miles. Mine went down almost 2 mpg with 3.73 gears. With an auto you will also reduce your top speed with 4.10s to around 108 mph. I've been told you cannot run an auto WOT in overdrive because the transmission will have both third and fourth engaged tearing up the transmission.

Do 4.10s or 4.30s like mentioned above the ratios or each gear are different than in a manual car that why you hear a lot of if it's stick do 3.73 if it's auto do 4.10s. But 4.10s are great in sticks and 4.30s are even better in autos. Also get a big stall Nd a shift kit like a 3800 stall and a tuner with different shift points and a nice stall and u will see huge differences. This is what I was told because I've never had an auto car and I have a chance to trade my extensively modded gt 5 speed for a mostly stock besides straight pipes 03 Mach 1. The Mach 1 is auto though and has a salvage title he was looking for 7500$ and can't seem to sell it but I'm not sure if I want to do the trade yet? If the Mach was a stick it would be a done deal hit autos idk don't like them very much.

I don't know why people get mad at new threads about gears, the guy is new here and probably doesn't know how to search or do all that other cool stuff, I didn't know how, but anyways I would do 4.10s for sure

Sorry, I wasn't trying to be a dick about it. 3 hours of sleep and be working a 15 hour shift. Kinda crabby. But that's no excuse. We are all here to learn.

if you develop any rattles, which i almost garuntee you that you will, i recommend buying an aluminum driveshaft, it will reduce cabin vibrations and you can notice a little bit of performance gain (less rotating mass, aluminum = lighter) helped a ton when i got my 3.73's, enjoy the 4.10's

your gonna love the 4.10s its a nice step up from stock and doenst hurt gas bad at all, although if your looking at gears im sure gas isnt a worry lol. I drive mine every day on the highway and have no problems with the rpms. Im very happy with them and sometimes wish i went bigger.

I have an auto and have 4.10s and love the decision I made!! It does decent on the highway... However, from stop light to stop light is where the gas is guzzled..

If you can't make up your mind between those two, there's always 3.90's.
Some guys will say go with 4.10's to start out and if it's too much gear, they'll be easier to resell. If you plan to go stall later on down the road, a lower (numerically higher) gear will probably increase gas mileage by limiting converter slip. No one bothered to tell me the lock-up function doesn't work when the tranny is cold so I'm getting horrible gas mileage due to my short commute to and from work (It's not a long enough commute for the car to get to operating temperature). I'm talking less than 10mpg. It still takes me 2 weeks to get through a tank of gas if I don't drive anywhere else. With more highway driving, there is a significant increase in mpg. I plan to go 3.73's for now. After reading a lot of threads, and talking to some sources, I came to the conclusion that 4.10's would be too much gear for me with the mod's I've got (in garage). Keep in mind my car is oriented for the twisties also.
