That's your best bet for the ground. You should be able to find a good ground location in the dash around the din. Typically aftermarket headunits use a slightly larger gauge ground wire coming out off it's harness plug and the factory wiring the kits have you wire it to is a lot smaller gauge. Also, if you run the ground through the factory harness it has to cover a lot more distance. Grounds should always be kept a short as possible.
