Detroit Locker - how much improvement?

If I were to install a Detroit Locker, how much improvement would I see in my dragstrip launches? Right now I've got the stock differential in my 2004 Mustang GT. I've got a 5-speed and my best 60' ever was a 1.54.

Would/could I be quicker off the line, or just more consistent?

more consistant and last longer due to the fact that the clutches wont be wearing out making your launches to start slipping

Another option is a Detroit TrueTrac which also has no clutches. It's a little more streetable than a locker and is pretty sturdy.

Is your car a drag strip only car? Cause locker on the street is a no no ( unless right tires/ conditions) I agree with Skaggs, i have the Detroit TruTrac and love it.

Also...if you're going to replace the differential, you might as well upgrade to a 31-spline setup while you're in there. The only extra work is pressing the ABS ring off of your old axles and onto the new ones. Be careful with that. I don't know if it's as flimsy as it looks, but it makes me nervous when pressing it off. It flexes a ton.

I've thought about removing my power brakes and power steering, but I guess I'm still hanging onto the illusion that my car is a street car still. I put 500 miles on it last year.

Damn I thought I was bad for only putting about 2k on it lol, I wouldn't eliminate powersteering, but abs shouldn't effect everyday use

Well, I've found that racing it means there's always something to work on. Half the time it's either on jackstands or getting ready to get put back on the trailer. It's a pain in the butt to put the street tires back on just to drive it once or twice. Add in the fact that I don't drive it in the rain or cold and you have 500 miles. I'm thinking about pulling a F8L and not getting tags/insurance for it this year.

Anyway...sorry to threadjack, OP. Truetrac + 31 spline upgrade is my recommendation if you're going to do anything.

Detroit lockers are not that bad on the street, they are not a full locking diff like a spool. they are just noisey and ratchet. We put detroit lockers in ever car we build. Mine would have one too if it wasnt for the price

When I find myself in a bracket race, it would be nice to know that I'm not going to spin at the line - basically launching the same everytime, and still be able to hammer it. I could leave the line easier, but when I try that, I sometimes bog the motor and really leave slow (like 1.80 60'), which sucks.

So there's no improvement to be found in the 60' with a locker, other than it would probably be more consistent?
