You are correct that the octane of the methanol is 116, but you are injecting so little methanol compared to the rest of the fuel being injected that the overall increase in fuel octane is generally less than 2 (see the math in Tang Stang's post and the Trick Tuner's post that I linked).

Keep in mind that an air-to-air intercooler can never cool your IATs below the ambient temperature. Methanol injection can, so yes meth does have a use in intercooled applications.

How much timing are you running?

Trick is also a guy who refused to tune meth setups. I ran a 70/30 meth mix in my car and it cost me 13 dollars for 3 gallons of that mix and in 1the year I went threw 3 tanks. Not a bad deal if you ask me. As for raising octane I ran a 5 gpm pre and a 10 gpm post jet which dropped my af by .8 which is right where you want to be. With that combo I ran 18# of boost at 20 degrees timing. Sounds like alot but the car is still running strong and detonation free. Do the math any way you want but water meth pulls so much heat out that it cools the tops of the pistons, valves, and everything else it comes in contact with. Even the percentage of meth I ran with the amount I sprayed an extra 3-4 octane goes a long ways
