Why don't I want 4.10s on my 99 Auto??
Going in next week for install. Shop has both 3.73s and 4.10s and want to make sure my choice of 4.10s is the right decision. Again this is a 99 GT Auto. It is NOT a DD and I don't plan on going to the track. No modes, right now, but do have a street performance 93 octane SCT tune (and have the tuner). My goal is to have a street screamer that I can enjoy from light to light and be a head turner. Going back and forth as to whether I go N/A or blower.
I've read just about every thread on gears but haven't come away with any definitive thoughts on why some went with 3.73s or those that dislike their 4.10s. So I'm asking the question: Why specifically didn't you go with 4.10s or why specifically don't you like your 4.10s? From there I can evaluate the cons you list and decide if these are indeed cons for me. Thanks! |

You want 4.10s with the auto. 3.73s you wil barely notice on a auto. On a manual car its more of a choice. Get the 4.10s...dont.think.twice.

I have 3.73's and wish they were 4.10's. If you don't go with 4.10's you'll regret it. End of story.

If you get 4.10's and don't like them hit me up. I'll trade my 3.73's for them. I won't hold my breath waiting to hear from you though.

Yup agree with all the above, there are days i wish i went bigger. i love my 4.10s the only thing not to like is the drone on the highway but that is because of my exhaust choice, you cant go wrong with the 4.10s

I went with 3.73s bc I was planning on doing a blower setup(non ending debate on that one) but also i do a bit of 1000+ mile trips in my car so a bit of highway driving. But based off the things you have stated personally about your car 4.10s should be spot on. And I could notice a difference in my auto going from 3.27s to 3.73s maybe i would have noticed it less if i went from 3.27 to 3.55. But after riding with the 3.73s for 3 years on the highway and playing around in the city a bit. if i could do it all over again i would still go with 3.73s seems like the happy medium to me city/hwy/strip but thats just me. but for a str8 out toy thats gonna be n/a for awhile i would have went 4.10s. No regrets in the choice I made but thats just me.

The only reason you'd want the 3.73s is if you do more long-distance driving.

Here is something to consider, with 4.10s you will run out of your 1:1 gear by 110mph. You really don't want to keep it floored in overdrive, its just not healthy. If you can live with that then go for it, but if you feel that 110 is too soon consider the 3.73s.
