Replacing steering rack bushing question.....?

I'm looking to replace my steering rack bushing sometime soon. My car making a creeking/cracking/squeeking noise when i turn the steeringwheel at slow speed or come to a complete stop quickly.
I found this replacement instruction on Americanmuscle.com, its pretty good...simple & pictures too

http://1.cdn.lib.americanmuscle.com/...7403-16067.pdf

In the instruction it says to unbolt the steering shaft from the steering rack & removed the both tie rod end from the steering knuckles. hmmmmmmmm!

WOULDN'T it be easier jus to support the steering rack, remove the steering rack nuts/bolts, remove the front bushing...push the steering rack forward & remove the rear bushings??? And install the new bushings in the reverse order

Yes, that is exactly what I did. I replaced my steering rack bushings with maximum motorsports solid aluminum ones. I didn't have to remove anything except the steering rack bolts, pull the steering rack forward, do the bit of cutting necessary and re-install. They came with instructions as well. Here is the link to the ones I have:

Steering Rack Bushings, Solid, 1985-04 Mustang with stock k-member [MMST-7] : Maximum Motorsports, the Latemodel Mustang Performance Suspension Leader!

Its a real simple install, I did it in my brothers driveway and then drove home. I just found some pictures actually that may help you. This kit required you cut the sleeves down a bit with a hacksaw or grinder, and I had to use a hacksaw. That was by far the hardest part.
Your steering will firm up and feel more precise, you should like the upgrade. To finish it off get a steering shaft with no rag joint.

Yep very simple install as previously posted. Aluminum bushings are the best also. Urethane still gives the steering geometry some flex.

Everyone else is spot on with what they said. Jump straight to the aluminum solid bushings and you just take the old bushings out and put the new ones in.
