01 cobra brakes

Does anyone know if the 01 cobra brakes and rotors are the same as the 03/04 cobras or the 01 bullitts? I have been looking and cant find anything and I have a chance to pick up the lines, rotors, pads and calipers for cheap if they are. I just have the stock GT brakes now. thanks guys

The Cobra brakes do indeed differ from the GT's, but yours will be BETTER with less cost and only need follow the steps in Brakes Upgrade ~ Speeding up slowing down thread

If those parts are in good shape and the lines are SS, then buy them

You will still need good fluid, but would need it regardless of my upgrade or those. Just make sure the parts are all in good shape and do good quality rear pads and SS lines at the same time.

Yes the Cobra and Bullitt brakes are the same. The difference is the emblem on them. Make sure you get the complete caliper with the bracket on the back. If you do the front brakes are a direct bolt on. The Cobra rear brakes are not really needed as they are only slightly different from the GT's. The rear calipers are the same. The pads are thinner to allow for the thicker rear rotor and the rotor is a little larger. The rear brake kits come with the dust shields and other small parts. I'm running 13" Cobra front brakes but I didn't change the rear brakes on my car.

I bought my bullets(same thing from 96-98 cobras and 2000-04 cobras and machs)new for 260, the only difference is the emblem in those years I mentioned, from the picture I see they do not have ss lines, you should buy some ss lines but the upgrade is worth it in my opinion

pro.... I am not sure the hoses are compatable with the GT lines

In such a case as I see now, you WILL be better off just doing the upgrades in my guide. The caliper will not be better in any sugnificant way and a larger rotor is basically an esthetic upgrade anway. Save the cost of those parts toward new pads, SS lines and fluid and will have better brakes for a lower cost. Eagle is correct on the upgrade of rear brakes to Cobra's. With the current brake-bias and rear-suspension on the Mustang 4-link, there is just no real gain to be had out back. One still needs the SS lines, as the OEM rubber ones will create a soft pedal feel in times of repeated hard braking, even if the front lines are SS.

Like jazzer said, good pads, good fluid and ss lines on stock sized GT brakes will be a night and day difference for a lot less coin

Brown truck just delivered my new Powerslot rotors, Hawk HPS pads, and SS lines. Thinking I should feel a BIG improvement over original equipment.

Examples are in my guide and fluid should be replaced every two years. Every year, is not a bad idea and especially if one puts LOTS of miles or a lot of hard braking. Moisture build-up causes breakdown of the fluid and contributes to soft pedal feel.
