My 01 Mustang Gt is Shutting off on me.
Hey I am new to this site and im trying to get some help on my Mustang GT.
I Traded my 94 Integra for it , And I picked it up about an hour away from where I live I drove it home no problem . Parked it that same night for 30min. Came out started right up drove down the street and it died . like It didnt get gas . I cranked it over and it didnt start all it was doing was cranking but seemed like it wasnt getting any gas . Looked at the fuse box I think fuse #24 was blown . Got some wire and put it where the fuse goes and it started drove it home and it sat. dropped the tank and fuel pump and has a brand new fuel pump in from factory ford . Now its still doing it drives for a bit and dies. But now where it reads miles it blinks once and blinks twice and the second time the numbers dont come up just dashes ...and the theft light starts blinking real fast. I let it sit for 30mins went to start it and battary was dead ? so i called a friend to bring jumper cables and it started right up ?but also to let you guys know the box right next to the right fender by the windshield started smoking at one point. Im confuesed and dont know what to do if you guys can please help me . Im a import guy and switched to Muscle and its a bit different and dont know where to start. Miles 200k on body , 120k on suppose swapped motor Year: 2001 Model: Mustang Gt I hope thats enough information to explain my problem |

Ford uses a PATS system (passive anti theft system). There is an electronic device in the key that communicates with the power train control module (PCM) to allow the car to start. The signals are relayed through a device in the steering column that may be malfunctioning in this car. Try tilting your wheel in different positions and see if it won't start. could have broken wires
The transceiver is easy to replace. 1. Remove the plastic parts around the steering column 2. remove the lock cylinder. Put the key in and turn it to run and push in on the retaining pin with a punch or similar tool and pull the cylinder out. 3. remove one screw and remove the transceiver and disconnect the wiring connecter. The transceiver sits in the hole the lock cylinder goes in. 4. install the new one and put it back together.

There is a chip in your key that may not be sending signals too.

Thats what I was thinking . Dont you have to take the whole car and key to reprogram it ? Will I have to take the column apart to see if it a wire. because itll idle all day its just when you drive it . Thats when it dies .
