Burning oil?

I got a 01 gt with 89k miles on it for some reason when i start my car it spits out a cloud of blue smoke an when i rev it it does it to (obv means im burning oil) i don't think it could be the piston rings because these motors go awhile before the rings going but could it be my valve seals or guides? causing to burn oil?

Valve stem seals can certainly cause excess oil consumption issues, and are especially noticable on startup.

yep for valve seals, that's my guess anyways.

Sounds consistent with valve stem seals. Their oil consumption is highest upon startup and idle.

My guess is valve seals. I bought a Harley that had been sitting a long time. It did exactly the same thing. It was the valve seals. Do you have a black oily film on the inside of your tail pipes?

I have the same issue on high revs, and it is because my car sucks oil through the PCV system. When I did my intake swap, i freaked cause there was a pool of oil in the lower plenum. 4.6/5.4 have a higher crank case pressure than some other engines, so PCV health is real important! Cheap replacement PCV valves (ie;fram, parts store's house brands) have a flat peice of light weight metal for the plunger. They have a tendency of opening way too soon and get stuck sideways and that keeps them open all the time. I bought the motorcraft PCV, which has a heavier peice with a tapered nipple on the bottom that helps for alignment and seal when its closed. That helped 10 fold. Installing a catch can in the line fixed it completely. I got tired of draining it every couple of days and eliminated it, so i do get oil in on high revs now. Try the Motorcraft PCV, because it will help some. Being that you have oil smoke on start up, does indicate valve seal wear, but the PCV will help some.

True but unlikely given his symptoms. PCV oil is a function of blowby pressure (piston rings), which means you'll get the most oil blowby at high RPM/load, and he's getting it right at start and low load, which sounds like stem seals.

Not to mention all he has to do is look in his intake to see if there's oil. If there is, PCV, if not, seals.

BTW, where in southern Indiana are you?

Take the intake off, pre-plenum. Look for oil in there coming from the lines that run to the valve covers. Alternatively take off the CCV lines that run from the valve covers to the intake and see if they're full of oil.
