rebuild options

my 99 gt has 135k miles and low compression in cylinder 8.

im weighing my options on what to do, keep in mind money is tight so im trying to go about this the cheapest possible way.

so here are my options

1) rebuild my motor with forged internals, buy a vortech v1, and some mild cams. my question is, where can i find a rebuild kit with forged internals thats cheap or is it best to piece it together, secondly theres a $3012 shipped vortech complete kit on ebay is this a good deal? and lastly where can i find some cheap mild cams (id like a nice lope with good power gain but i dont want something very aggressive) and saying i do all this or even just a rebuilt motor with forged internals and cams minus the vortech how much am i looking to spend for a tune (with just cams and with cams and vortech)

2) am i better off just purchasing a longblock ? once again i dont wanna spend too much..

going either way how much am i looking to spend totaldo you guys think? and what sort of supporting mods will i need such as suspension and my tranny..im just a little lost here, im 18 and dont know quite that much yet but im learning, i have a mechanic that does all my work for free as long as im there to talk and i supply his natty light lol so all of this work will be done by me and my mechanic.

I think you'd be better buying the 4.75 stroker shortblock from mmr, you gotta look around man deals are out there, I bought my cams brand new from summit for 300 on clearance but I see them going on here for the same price, I would look in the classifieds for some deals

I would buy a short block and get your heads inspected. Buying forged rotating assembly will cost 1500 for a mmr 600. After hardware, oil pump, block prep, and balance your going to spend close to the cost of a mmr750 for 3000 shipped.

Everyone has already told you the right answer. Get a MMR shortblock. After you factor in all the little pieces/parts, you can't beat the price of their assembled shortblocks.

so with a mmr600 with forged assembly etc, im looking at 3000, so i would use my stock heads on the shortblock, what would i be lacking at that point, keep in mind my goal is some mild cams with a vortech v1, also how much does a tune usually run, theres a guy in st louis that my friends have gone to, his name is bobcat, but they all have sn95 cars and im not sure about the cost difference

Tunes are about 500$.. you could get a vortech and cams on your motor but youd have to watch it and youd be limited on power.. if i could do it again I wouldve got a built long block and then be able to throw 200hp of nitrous, 15lbs of boost, and rev it to 7000rpm. A vortech v1 with cams will net you 400hp safely but these cars are getting so outdated and trying to keep up performance wise with 400+ horsepower factory BMWs, Audis, Porsches, Mustangs, Camaros, SRT8/10s, GTRs, Corvettes.. id go with a forged motor first.

Depends on how much money you have to spend. You could go MMR but that means cash! You could get a j-yard low miles motor for roughly $1300 and bolt it in on the cheaper side. Idk how much money you could have at 18, but then again you might be loaded. an actual price for your budget will let us actually help you.

Let's say 7000 is what I have, what are my options with that as far as a rebuilt motor or mmr along with cams a vortech and a tune saying I don't have to pay for labor

Assuming a shop is doing the work:
MMR shortblock - 3000 shipped.
Used Vortech kit - 2k-2500 shipped
Upgraded MAF,injectors,fuel pumps - 500-600?

and you havnt even payed for installation or a tune yet. I dont think 7000 is a reasonable budget for what you are asking for. You might be able to get a Procharger head unit off some classifieds for cheap, and piece the rest of that setup together for under 1500. Even then, I still think your over your budget. Just my .02
