5.4 Windsor Swap

I'm gonna swap the blown motor in my car for a 2000 5.4 windsor and was wanting to know what all was involved in the swap and what will bolt on the 5.4 from the 4.6 and if my intake and TR-3650 will bolt up?

are yoiu staying with the sohc or dohc. if your sticking with the 5.4 sohc, it will be a simple swap in. if your switching to dohc, youll need the wiring harness and ecu to make er run right

I've been interested in this too.

Is the 5.4 sohc the same block as the 4.6? The biggest thing is will the intakes interchange? B/c If I go this route I want to put my KB on it too.

the 5.4 will make a lot more tq and power. no they are not the same block dimensionally. physically they look the same but the 5.4 is a little bigger i do believe

I did a little bit of quick reading on it. It has the same bore as the 4.6 but the stoke is longer. 4.6 stoke is 3.54 inches and the 5.4 stoke is 4.17 inches. I assume that the longer stoke means the block is taller making the heads further apart so the intake on a 4.6 would not fit on the 5.4

Kinda sucks, If it would work I'd forge a 5.4 block and slap my KB on it.

you can still use the 4.6 intake manifold. you just need adapter plates. reichard racing makes them. the only thing is they are slow as shit making stuff unless you get lucky and they already have some made. heres a link to them http://www.reichardracing.com/46to54adapter.php

Very interesting... I would have to do some custom alternator work and see about belts to get it all to work, But could in theory build a 5.4 SOHC for my car with my current blower and run it at 14 psi.

I might have to look into this a bit more, could be fun!

it can be done but it's not easy, the 4.6 and 5.4 are not the same block the oil pan on the 5.4 is deeper and will not clear the k-member, I know what you are thinking "but they did it to the 5.4 2000 Cobra R" that block was specifically built for the cobra. Now you can put the truck motor in a mustang you will need to buy a special K-member for the car "look in a mustang magazine I see them all the time" I don't think the mustangs computer will work with it though so you'll have to take the trucks and flash it for what you want, my brother in-law did the swap with a 96 gutted v6 to a 5.4 and it was a pain in the ass, but it is doable.

yeah i got to rig the return style fuel rails though...i did crank it up and it sounded mean i cant wait to drive it...BTW i'll post pics when i clean it up a bit as i had to make splices and such the only problem i am having aside from the fuel rails is the exhaust gotta bend the bassani X-pipe and grind the flange down on the passenger side

had to use stock 5.4 intake manifold and 4.6 exhaust manifold. if you want to use the 4.6 UDP's swap out the water pumps

as the snout on the 5.4 is longer than the 4.6's thats the only swapping i had to do...the exhaust manifolds and the water pump and splice(extend) the MAF Sensor, Throttle Position Sensor, and the Coolant temp. sensor and get a longer throttle cable
