Added friction modifier to my T45
So my T45 has a ton of miles on it. Did a mile rebuild but its always been a nasty notchy non fast shifting slow tranny lol. I decided hell with it I'm going to toss some friction modifier in it. If it wears on the blocker rings owell. Well 1st impressions are in. Should have done it along time ago. 3rd gear was always the hardest gear to power shift in this car. Honestly half the effort now. I slammed 7oz of friction modifier in it, drove it about 5 miles to warm the motor and tranny. Downshifts smoother, powershifts smoother and shifts smoother overall. Not just a little but ALOT. So far I like this. 7 bucks at autozone lol.
Now if it goes to crap in 2500 miles I have a spare sitting here on the shelf ready to go. If you guys want to hold of and let me be the test dummy I dont mind. I should have about 2500 miles on it with in the next few weeks.

Just regular old off the shelf rear axle (posi lubricant) friction modifier. You can get the ford brand or a ton of other brands, all the same stuff basically. Its not a new trick. People have been doing it for years I just decided hell with it to try it. I would run synchromesh but T45s use paper blocker rings and its been said the synchromesh will cause them to break down over time. I'm not sure how true this is though because I see a ton of guys running it with no complaints. I recently heard of people running synchromesh WITH friction modifier also and thats supposed to also work well. I do know one thing for sure my T45 never shifted worse than with synthetic ATF....

I was runnin Mobil 1 Syn ATF in my T45, but just recently changed to Royal Purple Synchromax.....Wow is all i have to say. I was having a little trouble grabbing a quick
2nd with the mobil 1. That is no longer the case with the RP. But kudos for trying the friction modifier cause i often wondered how that would work myself.

It for sure made a huge difference. i just run regular nonsynthetic atf in my t45 usually. I've tried like 4 different types and it works the best, quietest and shifts the best. Now I want to try synchromesh and modifier. I really dont care about this tranny so if it wears it out fuck it lol. But synch mesh is expensive. The pennzoil shit is 7 dollars a qt. Figure 4 qts is 30 bucks... plus some modifier lol. Seems like alot of money and I doubt it can make it much better. All synchromesh is that makes it special is friction modifier basically. So no big secret there lol.

Adding modifier will decrease the t45's life?
Every once in awhile doing 60-65 I try to downshift(but keeping clutch engaged until I slow to 40) it'll grind into 4th but I won't shove it in. Bad synchro or could modifier help me out here?

friction modifier will shorten the life of the sycros. people should also stay away from any sythetic atf. just regular dex 3 is good, but i see how the modifier will help, just not in the long run
