Update on my Cobra Swap. Pics!

Well shes coming to together very nicely. Only after making one harness out of two, changing my injectors to a 97 and and some misc. wire work. Should be up and running by Feb. 1st!

Pretty sure the stock motor has a spun bearing. Will sell it to you for dirt cheap though. LMK. and as for the fabbing of my own parts. Not going to take the credit for it. I'm having a guy do alot of the work for me. Did what I could. Dont have a garage or time to do it right now.

how much did you spend on the process, if you don't mind me asking, and what year cobra motor? just curious because i plan on one day swapping a cobra motor into my car as well.

Well.....Ive got somewhere between 3800-4300 in parts. 1250 for the car. So im sitting a little over 5k total right now. Mechanics bill will be around 800. So im going to estimate somewhere around 6800 by the time im completley said and done. But I bought alot of "want" parts that I didnt neccesarily need also. BBK Ceramic headers, Exedy Clutch, New deep dish wheels and tires. I paid 600 for the longblock. Got a hell of a deal. Ill let you guys know the final bill. But im going to guess if you can find a deal on one you could probably do this swap for around 3k including motor.

Sweet. Care to share any details on the wiring harness? That's really the main thing I have left, and it will obviously be a little difference as I'm going with a built 04 cobra motor, but some things should be the same

Well the wiring harness that I got off ebay, I discovered was not in fact an 01 cobra harness and alot of the retainer clips were broke. Whenever ford switched over their fuel injectors threw me for a loop. I had to purchase used 97 cobra injectors as they use the same clips as a 99GT. Also had to modifiy my Coil wires to now coil on plug wires. So basically cut, saudered and recovered 1 harness between whatever harness I had bought and the 99GT harness. So, I will have some BRAND NEW injectors for an 01 cobra for sale!!!

That seems to be how it goes. I didn't think I'd get a stage 3 clutch, FR500 cams or a ported blower but, well here we are.

Pssst. I've got about half mine re-wired this week. I'll give you the updates when it's done. Re pinning the COP's was easy, soldering the COP extensions is a PITA and time consuming.

I did take my time though and the re-wrapped sections of the harness look downright OEM.

You could have just bought EV1 to EV6 injector adapters from AM for like $35.

I was kind of in the same boat, except I had a 01 Cobra harness that was missing the alternator section and the C1045 connector.

Did you remember to flip polarity on the COP plugs?

It's pretty easy to double check.

The polarity of the 4v COP's is reverse of the 2v COP's, so if you use a 2v engine harness, you have to switch them.

Take a look at your COP's. One of the leads is labled "B+." This is a common power circuit. Ensure that your power lead, (the thicker wire) is run to this. The power lead wire is the same color for all 8 COP's, and is red for 4v harnesses, white for 2v's. As long as the power goes to the B+ pin, you're fine.
