This is true. The AEM, or any wideband for that matter used a 5 wire O2 sensor to track your true air/fuel ratio. You still need to have at least the front two O2 sensors to keep your ECM in check.

Correct! And position it in the collector with the tip facing at an angle downward to prevent moisture build up

If your rear O2 sensors are shut off, you can use one of those bungs instead. Itll take an extra second to "heat" up vs being 2" away from the collector. But itll work fine at the rear O2 sensor bung.

I dont like putting the wideband infront of the Primary O2 sensors. That could get in the way of alittle air flow and throw off the O2 sensor's reading alittle.

Also, if you get the bung welded on, you want it at a 3 oclock or 9 oclock position so it wont get wet.

If you have your rear HOS's turned off, you can put it in their places. If not, you will want a separate bung.

Sensor location is very important for an accurate read. You want it in an area in the flow with a very consistent homogenous flow path. This means stay away from bends and elbows.

To promote longevity mount the sensor within +/- 45 deg of the vertical. Ensure that the female connector is oriented facing down to prevent moisture from collecting in it.

You don't want the bung too deep or too shallow into the flow. The probe shoulder should sit about even with the pipe inner diameter.

Last but not least is thermal protection. You want the sensor at least 2" away from hot components, and the wire 4" from them. External sensor parts should not exceed 220 deg F in operation.

And it goes without saying you want no exhaust leaks, and you want to be as close to the upstream HOS as possible without interrupting flow to get the most accurate readings and quickest response.

...all of those are standard engineering requirements (IQA) for the installation of any Cummins engine. I know, I review this for every OEM.

I'd say that is quite repworthy.

I rep'd all who answered! Thanks! How would you go about passing e check? Could he put a mil eliminator in one side and wideband in the other? I ask because I know you get the system rediness code when the rears are turned off

you wont be able to run a single mil with the rear o2 sensors on. you will have to turn the rears off compleatly or get a bung welded.

Hmmmm... Could you wire your driver rear o2 into your passenger rear o2 and keep the rear o2 turned on and run a wideband sensor in the driver rear bung?

that did not make sense, there are 4 total bungs with 4 sensors. he is adding a 4th, without eliminating the rear 2 out of the tune he wont be able to remove just 1 with out a check engine light. mil eliminators work by altering the frequency out put of the o2 sensor, the sensor still has to be pluged in and installed to function.

Shaun is asking if you would be able to "splice" the drive side rear 02 sensor harness into the passenger side harness

you could possibly do that but you gotta be good with electical stuff. you gotta remember ohm's law for that and even still who knows. it may be just easier to weld the extra bung in that case

Yeah true, good point. I was just thinking of a way to bypass one of the rear O2's but keeping them on for emissions. But like you said, at that point might just be easier getting the bung welded
