Few questions for the savy...

I've just turned 16, and am getting a car this summer, and I've decided to get a stang.

My goal is to get a 2002 Mustang GT, and I already know I'll be modding it because I'm young and my friend just so happens to have a Private course and drag strip at his parent's summer home. (Also lot's of back roads and HUGE "ricer" scene with their imports and huge mufflers and spoilers. lol)

As I'm not as privileged as him, I'm going to start saving up for the next 6 months for parts and I am curious on what y'all think so far.

What are your thoughts on the Auto vs Manual? I do plan on doing "street" type racing, but it will be on private pavement roads.

What I'm looking for is a Daily Driver that's reliable enough to get me around the city and make occasional 1-2hour trips.
BUT I also want to be able to go fast when need be, and have it sounding bad ass. I'll probably take it to the track every few months and also do some street racing(details up there some where ^^)

Automatic

Manual

Welcome to the site! A few holes in your plan that I see without digging too much: you wont like the types setup...they fit like shit and sound worse...ask me how I know lol number two....I have heard hit and miss about patriot products...wait for others input here. What is your mechanical ability? Cams/heads aren't for the first timer with these cars imho. The sumitomos that you mentioned wont do much for you in the way of grip in any size. Long tubes are a fairly big bitch to put on these cars and you'll need an aftermarket mid pipe of some sort to accompany them. Not busting your nuts on your plans just trying to give you better options my dood lol

Edit...I didn't look at the cam specs but your probably looking at upgraded springs too....

No it's cool, I rather get some help before buying all the parts and being SOL. Lol. And my mechanical ability is 0. I was planning on getting these done in a shop. I read somewhere that putitng shortys on wasn't that big of a upgrade from stock. And honestly I bsed the tires because I wanted a affordable setup with some kick, what tires would you recommend that I can get for a reasonable price?

BTW what is a setup you recommend? and What order should I get the mods?

If you are having a shop do all the work you're looking at a ton of cash for not spectacular results imho. Depends what the overall use of the tires will be ...nitto 555's aren't a bad tire for DD use...the sumos are good if you wanna make yourself think that your car has a ton of balls and just blows the tires off at will haha

I would do exhaust, intake, gears, and a tuner. I think you would be happy with that amount of power and it wouldn't be too expensive.

Thanks for this, I might go ahead and start with that . Thoughts on Auto vs Stick?

And what do you mean by tuner? Sorry first car and to many completely different search results came up/:
And should I do a whole CAT back for the exhaust or just use flow master clip ons?

I would go manual with 4.10's
I would also hold off on the mods until you get a good feel of the car and power/rwd etc.

Personal thought:
Sports cars should have never came in a auto, ever!

When I see a auto I get sick... Not really but you know what I mean. Yes, auto comes in handy fr drag cars etc. but I just like the idea of shifting myself.

Looks like your parts list is longer than it needs to be.

Auto
Stall
shift kit
100 shot
Cat back
Mid pipe

Manual
100 shot
cat back
mid pipe

Why 4.10s on manual instead of 3.73s?

I'm curious because from what I read its the other way around, but I don't own it yet so I haven't been able to forge my own opinions about it yet.

Thanks for your thoughts, short and simple. What is a "stall" under the auto list? Not to familiar with much yet but at least I'm trying to learn lol and sorry if its another dumb question what do you mean mid pipe?

I vote manual but thats just me. As far as gears 3.73s or 4.10s. I went with 3.73s but its all a personal prefference. I would do mid pipe such as a x pipe or h pipe and good cat back. And a tuner changes certain perameters of the vehicle. Search it, it will explain it to you better than i can lol

your 16. To be honest, the stock hp is enough to get you arrested or your parents yanking your keys.

If you get a five speed, dont mod it, save up for brakes and tires. You will burn through them like nympho in a whore house.

You're young, dumb and ready to show off, not saying that as an insult, just going back to any kid who was/is 16 and getting their first car.

Okay thanks for the info it'll help out a lot in the choices/parts that I pick. I would get a tune done at a shop/dealership?

Oh, crap. We are working totally in the realm of fiction.

You have listed a bunch of stuff. Don't tell us stuff. Tell us your goal. Then we can give you sometime concrete to consider.

Edit: I just re-read this thread. I really don't want to play. It's not because you are 16, its because you do not know what you want.

I completely agree with the last part I'm not trying to lie or justify it. And from what I've heard your right, and I should probably add brakes to my list, I'll be updating it whenever I get back to my computer. Thanks for your insight

I will whenever I get back to my computer, I was trying to seem more educated than the other people who just post asking for information. Thanks

You could or order a hand held tuner from AmericanMuscle like i did which includes the Bama tunes for life.. Once you buy the tuner, you then answer a list of questions about your vehicle and they will write you tunes for your specific car. When you begin doing more modding, you email them and they write you another tune for your car. Simply plug in the tuner, program it, and there ya go.

Thanks that sounds interesting yet simple enough for a beginner to do. Thanks!
